I bought one as a project myself a few months back. Losing interest already though, lol.

fiesta mk5 ZS maybe but otherwise the fiesta Mk4/5 is inferior to the puma due to a number of upgrades to the suspension including bigger antiroll bars, stiffer rear beam, dampers etc etc etc. ZS is good as it has all the puma suspension bits and a lighter shell to make up for the smaller engine.

1.7 pumas are so cheap these days you might as well get one rather than fuck about with modifying a mk4/5 fez.

Then you have to fill them out with the wheels etc.

You are wasting your time and will end up with something shit on track.

If you want a car that just LOOKS LIKE it might be a trackday car on a budget, but doesnt drive well then carry on mate, but it will be rubbish if done on the cheap IMHO, if its a low budget project spend what little money you have on things that will make it drive well.

i ordered a FRS instead of buying a old F car.
the xr3 is auto and will be tosh on track.

and would like a track car that costs 5k ish all in.
as you have to allow for decent shocks etc etc..

1.7 Puma is a far better bet than a MK5 RS2000 IMO. Not saying the RS2K is a bad choice, but go and drive a 1.7 Puma in anger on some B-Roads and you'll see exactly what I mean...

If you only have 5K, then dont spend a couple of K on altering how it looks, thats 40% of your budget gone for no tangable benefits on track.

Ah fuck it, do what you want mate, you obviously arent going to listen to advice from people who've done lots of trackdays in different cars etc and learnt first hand what makes sense or not.

Agile is about the most important thing in a decent trackday car.

Big lazy v6 is about the worst engine choice going

Big car = heavy = slow = expensive

By expensive I dont mean to buy, I mean it will much through tyres and use loads of fuel etc.

Assuming you would like to survive a crash then yes.

There are also some handling benefits from the extra rigidity, but TBH as a beginner on track I doubt you will really notice those.

If you don't want to die, yes

Small and agile = best track cars, certainly on a budget anyway

Big car with V6 = about as much fun as chopping celery

You'll probably just annoy everyone by overtaking them on the easy bits and getting in their way on the bends.

Yeah, it's also on a very tight budget indeed and it needs to be ready in a month so no messing about how it looks. Everything done so far is about getting it right so it'll do the job when it's out there. It's having some stickers to plug that web site but other than that it'll be as Ford intended. I'm not even going with the bigger wheels now since I discovered it was a faff to fit them and that they're somewhat heavier.

TBH Chip he'd be better off with a 205 GTi or a Clio 172/16v Even a Saxo VTS for track. But as it's a Ford related question, an RS2k Mk5/6 is the only really budget option. Maybe a Puma or a Fiesta Zetec S, but they're expensive for a small amount of power. My advice is spend 3k on a Clio 172 and some bits and bobs like tyres and a decent suspension kit and brakes. You'll have more fun that way. If you crash, meh, it's a Renault. Who cares
