Default wanting to learn to spray - this kit ok?

hey peeps, want to learn how to spray a few panels etc so i can eventually do little body mods myself and saw this kit at work:

http://www.halfords.com/opd_product_...&type=0&cat=67

would this be a good kit to learn and do a few little jobs with? i was looking maybe to spray the underside and engine bay using this kit?

i can get the kit for about £40ish

of shud i invest in something bigger/better?

you need a much bigger compressor for car work

should also have enough feed for an air mask if painting with propper paint

there is also an art to doing it lol its not easy

the money you spend on the gun really does make a difference, a mate bought s couple gravity fed guns from machine mart for primer etc there actuall not bad atall if clean them very well before use each time

about 35 quid i think

but the guns normally used are the devillbiss gti and there about £250

there not no were near the best out either

agree on the compressor even on a small 50ltr it will be on 24/7 struggling

a good starter range of guns is the devilbiss finishline range, £50>£60 in most places HVLP is the best for finish and paint consumption but it takes more getting used to than conventional guns, and also need bigger compresssors to run them HTH

it all depends how far you want to take it really, you can get just one gun with different fluid tips and that will do the job , the most important thing is to get the settings on the gun right, i would also get a pressure gauge for the gun as lthough you set it at the compressor you will get a variation at the gun

as per aj, the "new" DeVilbiss finishline is an excellent starter gun, comes with 2 fluid tips also 1.8 and 1.5 mm IIRC, using the same needle!... good value well known brand cant really see point in buying a 20 quid gun for primer etc when these are availible!!... no point spending above that though for whst you want..

so what sort of compressor would be good for these guns? does the power of the compressor matter? IE 1hp, 3hp etc?

size of compressor does matter, mine is a 50ltr 3hp job capable of 14cfm air delivery which easily runs my spraygun. as for price of compressors mine was about £300 but you would probably get it cheaper now and of course you could always get a second hand one
