Default Helicoil help

I've had a minor setback with my car

Am in the middle of putting the head back on but one of the cam cap studs on the exhaust side has pulled out of the head.

I've had this happen before and helicoiled the stripped threads (I think I replaced 4 or 5 of them).

The problem is that the one that's pulled out is one I've already coiled

Can you get thicker helicoils? i.e. still M8 on the internal diameter but say 9mm external instead of 8.3mm?

I fucking hope so!

Cheers!

Neil.

Neil you could use a time-sert insert but i think they are quite expensive for the kits and you only need 1 hole doing or drill out to say M10 if space allows and plug the hole with a bolt & re-tap it.

They look promising but I can't find any UK suppliers. Anyone have any idea where to buy or hire timesert kits?

agreed timeserts are unreal. good enough for headbolt threads! you can get them from wurth but will cost you around 180 for the kit

Sorted now, as luck would have it, the spiral I pulled out of the hole last night was just the ally thread. I thought it was a helicoil as it came out in one lump!

Stuck a helicoil in there and it's fine now

Neil.
