Default What turbo for 350bhp?

I want to run around the 330-350bhp mark on my 3 door.

Am thinking that a T3/TO4E is probably a good place to go, but what trim and what A/R should i be looking for to get best results?

Thanks in advance.

350 Bhp target turbo is a Garret T34 std fitment to Escort Cosworth. A 0.55 A/R turbine housing would probably make it the perfect turbo.

There are obviously GT series turbos aimed at this area too but nothing will bolt on and work with such ease and simplicity as this T34, especially when it comes to mapping time, with most mappers having a map they can simply post you.

The best turbo for this would be a T03/4B with a 0.48 a/r housing (providing you didn't want more power later - if you did have bigger plans, then a 0.55 or 0.63 depending on how far you think you want to go). Just remember the bigger the exhaust housing the more lag.

i see from your other post that you may want to go up to 450 using nitrous. why not mention that here?

Because its not relevant, i will use an external gate to get rid of the additional gasses from the ntirous anyway, so the turbo wont be effected.

On gas i can happily get whatever power i want from it, hell i could easily get 500bhp from it without a turbo attached, lol
So im not after any advice with regards to on-gas performance, as it will be so rare i use it anyway, so im just after info on the turbo itself.

So would a garrett T3/04E with a 50trim wheel with a .48 A/R housing be suitable?

an external gate to get rid of gasesproduced by using nitrous

have you been smoking crack ?

a setup like that woudl require custom exhaust manifolds etc

and your talking abotu getting a T34 and wire ringing on the cheap

Could the existing manifold just be modified to accept the external wastegate?

Ive got a mate who is an industrial fabricator and another who is a professional tig/mig welder, welding on a flange to the standard manifold and knocking up a little screamer pipe isnt an issue, will only take one of them a few hours.

i would say that it is relevant when it comes down to the details of exhaust housing sizes if you intend to use the nitrous regularly.

for example, why go for a small .48 if you can use a .63 and use the nitrous to overcome the difference in 'lag' of the larger exhaust?

Nick, cause i want to use it 99% of the time without nitrous, so im most bothered about off nitrous performance if i use a larger housing then i will HAVE to use nitrous all the time to avoid lag, i dont want that.

you will require a complicated controller system if you intend to run dual wastegate both operating at different pressures

how will you calculate the pressure at which the second opens when u use nos.

surely if you are going to this trouble then a GT series turbo with an external wastegate in the first place is by far a better choice

CraigN, the t3/o4e im on about doesnt have an internal gate anyway.

http://store.yahoo.com/cheapturbo/gart3to448ar.html

To be honest, though if i do use an internally gated one it will cope fine at that level of nitrous anyway based on my experience of it with other turbo engines.

If its restrictive on gas it doesnt bother me, ill just turn the boost down and run more gas, nitrous generates less CC of exhaust gas per horse power than a turbo does so if the housing flows 350+ off gas anyway its not going to be a problem.

Im only interested in the off gas performance here, i'm just going to nitrous it cause i can (ive normally got a spare kit lieing around, which i have at the moment anyway) not cause im going to use it often on gas anyway.

If the worse comes to the worse and i couldnt run gas (although i know i can) then i would settle for that if it meant better results the rest of the time.

that t34 will not be a straight fit tho and cost a lot more in the long run

you will need a custom downpipe to start with

Downpipe wouldnt bother me, i know someone who will knock that sort of thing up for me cheap if i need it.

I like the idea of the Yank turbo with the external gate though.

Can anyone think of any problems with using a T3/04E turbo?

What technical information do you want?

T34 are availble in various different trims and A/R housing etc.

Or do you mean you want the specs for a standard escos one?
