Default Sierra Sapphire Cosworths

Right as you may have seen ive been helping a mate look for one as he has no net at home. As it is me who has been receiving all the mails and pics about them for him ive now seen loads and its making me think about one...which is wierd as i have never been a big fan. I love Escort cossies and i like 3 doors but always thought saffs were just ok! But now im thinking at the price they fetch for what seem to be decent examples it maybe is worh buying one?
Having never been interested in owning one im now wondering what they are like? Do they drive(4x4) like the escos?

CheeRS Lee..

My standard one is great fun to drive, really can throw em about, so big power I imagine is even better!
Ive never driven an Escos, but my pal has driven a standard one, and he thought mine was nicer to drive, but only because he found the gearbox in the escy to be a bit more hard work.
Im sure someone will correct me if it was just the individual cars though ...

I quite fancy one myself, 2 wheeler tho...I think they are good fun cars, easy to work on and if you do things right and keep on top of them, no reason why they cant be reliable!

2wd saph is the best overall cossie imo. I have had a 3 door a 2wd saph and an escort, imo this is how they are

3 door was nice but felt like an old car and dated inside etc but they look the bollox
2wd saph was quick practical and felt a well built cmfy car
escos felt slow and heavy but was a nice drive and i didnt like 4x4 but got the looks from everyone including granys lol

I liked my uncle's 4x4 sapph. Felt alot quicker than it was at 330bhp no doubt because of the Cosworth power delivery. Very fun cars!

Do you not think the clock surround and the heater controls and the door card handles look a lot more dated than the saph ones?

I have owned 3 2wd saffs, driven lots of 3 doors & 4x4 saffs, and own an Escort Cossie and a 2wd saff. I would say the best all round package is the saff, and the 2wd saff has the edge over the 4x4 IMHO, close to 400bhp is easy to get, and in a 2wd car is seriously fast car.

Cheers Will.

Never driven a high powered RWD though, and the stories kinda put me off!

ive had the 4x4 saff and now the escos and tbh for every day driving the saff wins hands down for comfort and drive.the escos is a great car but tbh if it wasnt the fact i have a garage now and only use it every now and then i wouldnt have one over the saff.i still love the saff's,the look, the drive everything
but the escos does handle better imo and looks wicked. just not comfy like the saff, and you can carry 5 people at 100 plus mph with loads of leg room but the escort is a squash for even one person in the back

the 4x4 saffs drive good imo Lee, go for one.

i have a 2wd car at the moment, standard power, and you cannot even floor that in the damp etc...without it breaking traction, totally useless imo.

i'm with you on the saffs, a nice late 92 car with the later dash, wheels, colours etc...and there are a good few fore sale at the right money.

gone on Lee.

what power would you want to go for Lee as the gearboxes are the weak point in the 4x4's.

will be ok ish at about 330-350 bhp,and thats the ideal power that the cosworths should be.

2wd saffs are great cars, and massive fun in the wet!! The speed difference between 2wd and 4x4 is shocking really, a stg 1 270ish bhp 2wd will keep up, maybe even edge away from a stage 3 4x4.

Whatever car you buy, get a decent rear beam for it! Don't listen to the horror stories of 2wd cars being uncontrollable, just be sensible where you use the power!!

Yeah then it'll come to a roundabout or a twisty bit in the road and end up wrapped round something

I just can't see that fella a 270 bhp car keeping up with or edging away from a 330 bhp car, also if the road is a bit damp you aint putting the power down from a standing start in a 2wd it will just spin whilst the 4x4 is fucking off down the road
