t- 9 mins doesn't mean 9 mins to go - it means 9 mins of the countdown remaining - there are various holds that interupt that - status checks, safety check, fueling checks etc.
It's actually about 1.5hrs away from lift off.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
went to florida 2 years ago, we were there for 2 weeks half way through the second week we found out there was a shuttle launch due on our second to last day, we were only stayin neer disney resort so decided to drive to cape as some relatives were there at the space centre, we never made it though, we were on the toll road when the count down hit zero on the radio and the roads just emptied onto the pavements and grass verges and everone stood one the roofs, we were still 40 miles away and it was huge and loud as but what an amazing thing to see, i doubt ill ever be as lucky in life to see such an event!

think they reach something like 17000mph so 4000mph is nothing lol, the original missions to the moon reached speeds that took them to nearly 7 miles a second.

For Sale..Apply within.
FAR more frustrating driving to Kennedy and back 4 times in the last 5 days than watching it online

Thanks for posting this, very interesting. Went Kennedy Space Center few years ago, awesome place, the kit there is massive.
I feel for the astronauts having learn all those acronyms, just glad it went up all OK.
