Even if a rwd frs was no quicker than a fwd frs it would still be more of a drivers car and a more exciting drive than a fwd frs imo

Don't try telling them that on the DC2 forum!

Interestingly, the DC2 ITR was originally going to be supercharged 4wd as well but they went fwd in the end and that car is still held up as a great driver's car

Blah blah....if the FRS had a rocket strapped to it and wings it could fly to the moon and be more fun than Sputnik....but it hasnt, so we'll take it as it is and appreciate it's almost universally celebrated in the press as the best all round hot hatch to date.

'Thinking' FWD is inferior, and FWD 'being' inferior are two very different things.

It's amusing that RWD is considered by so many to be all manly and brave!

Im sure they are probably really nice, i just can't stand them !! i used to co-own another ford forum (fordtorque) and nearly every other car on there was a focus - after a while they just started getting on my nerves ! i might have to photoshop a new RS and see if i can make it look better

Its got nothing to do with being manly and brave

A rwd car is better balanced thats a fact, putting all the weight of a engine and gearbox ect up front is not as good as spreading the weight across the whole car(im sure you already know this),its called physics
Rwd cars are so much nicer to drive

You cant do nice doughnuts(unless your in reverse and thats shit) or a bit of drifting
You fwd boys can defend it all day, the facts are it would have been tens times better in rwd or awd
I dont care about how much more it would have cost, being a ford fan ive been waiting for years for a decent car to come out,im still waiting

Ps i do still think its a nice car,and if i had to choose a fwd car, i would choose the focus

It's got everything to do with being manly and brave Your following comments about drifting and doughnuts reinforce that!

Totally get your point, but think that there's still a stigma about FWD cars left over from when they first came out. Nowadays you can get a FWD car that handles awesomely and is huge fun.

But it's all down to personal preference at the end of the day!

Its really not that interesting that a lighter car, with obviously more power than claimed is slightly faster than the RS in a straight line acceleration test. The ultimate power of the RS still shows shows in topspeed and 100-120.

If straight line floats you boat then great, get an ST and a mountune kit and watch your cash float out of the window as it depreciates faster than it accelerates ( its a good car no doubt, but no doubt either its no RS in the corners or EVO would be telling you .... )

I cant make that judgement cos ive only driven an Escort & I guess most on this thread cant make that judgement either, so all i can do is listen to me old mate & give the new RS .
I drove Cyrils RS09 *&* last friday and have driven his 500/500 esc cos a few times, and he obviously knows his stuff,The focus mk2 RS is a VERY well put together bit of kit, very taught and goes and sounds just as is should,it very driveable and very easy etc to drive too.looks the NUTS in green too ! ! !
imo being a new car etc etc there it does seem to have less "soul" than driving a esc cos etc,or maybe even the mk1 focus rs which again i have driven a few of.But they do drive well and should not be dismissed easily !
in its class, new FWD hot hatchs, its top of its class imo !

Well going on that basis, Jost Capito said they tested a 4WD version and found it boring but according to what say JUST the fact that it doesn't have 4WD or RWD means it isn't a decent car. That's your words not mine. And you would've been happy stumping up some more cash to have a 4WD system in and some more transmission loss? And be honest all those banging on about RWD it isn't because the car might actually be faster around a track, it is simply so that you can get the tail out that you want it isn't it. Having driven both FWD and RWD cars before, FWD can still lap a track just as well as if not better in some cases than a RWD car.

the r26 uses the same engine and power as the r26r 230bhp (227to b spot on)it just has diffrent gearing and diff.the r26 is much better as a daily driver but you really notice the diffrence on a track when in an r26r.

Not sure if that's true, or a line they spun us to explain why they couldn't give them to mags for longer tests!!

Also on one of the launch days there was a bunch of delivery mileage RSs on a car transporter - The driver fucked up and managed to move the wrong ramp on the transporter and destroyed the roof on three of the cars - Wonder if they got 'plodded up' and sold on?

But their Focus ST is a press car too, so the same rules apply to both in terms of if one's been cained, they've both been cained...

The Mountune kit is 260 PS, all the rolling road days with these cars have recorded 260bhp - 265bhp no more. It's also been TUV power tested at 260PS.

In the words of Nick from the apprentice... "I'll leave that with you..."
