in the final stages of wiring the old girl up, and the battery is now in the back of the car.

i wil run an earth strap from the batt to the shell, but do i also need to run a cable to the block/gearbox from the -ve of the battery? or can it all just be strapped to the chassis?

yes its a must or it will melt anything that ressembles a connection to the engine, including ecu wires !!!

so batt is behind passenger seat, one strap to shell, run cable from -ve to engine/gearbox (will bolt from block to box be ok?) and an earth strap from inner wing to bonnet.

is this enough?

you need to make sure you have a decent sized, again run dependant, from a bellhosuing bolt is fine, straight to a substantial part of the body.

Don't know if im reading this wrong but it seems you might have miss understood each others posts, sorry if im mistaken.

Just to clarify, you need a good earth from the bat to the chassis, and also the engine/block to chassis, no need for a direct earth run from bat neg to block.

Just make sure to remove paint/underseal from connection points on body.

so i can just use a good strap from the batt to the floorpan where the batt is, and then a strap from the engine block to the chassis, and from the chassis to the bonnet?

and thats it?

anyone want to buy 4 metres of 4AWG cable in black lol?

oh, one more thing, whats the best way to connect it to the chassis? i was thinking an m6 or m8 bolt through the floor pan with anti vibration washers (sharp edges) etc and a nut, then use it as a kind of terminal post and then secure the earth straps to this.

no mate you need a good thick earth from somewhere like a bellhousing bolt straight to the battery, and an earth strap from the battery to the body, the body earth is for all of your electronics and your thick earth is for the starter as they require lots of amps to work

next question is, where the fook can i get some cable ends from? local motorsport place dont have them big enough for 4awg cable, nor halfords, nor partco, nor camberly autofactors etc.
