Would you say that if it was on normal road tyres like the RS/VXR not the road legal slicks it has? I'm sure they contribute immensely to its performance otherwise people wouldnt be so keen to run them on trackdays etc

For a weekend car the Megane would be tempting but as an everyday car i could use all the time for everyday stuff the RS would tick all the boxes for me. I'd like to see EVO mags time for the FRS and R26R on the same tyre

yep its on road legal slicks.....so the fact its only marginally quicker than a heavy fully trimmed FRS on road tyres makes it ( only a tiny bit ) less impressive.

So the sporting model vauxhallss are really that different to the normal models then?
I've driven the new vectra, astra and corsa and they were all shite - and thats coming from a background of Morris Minors, fiesta mk1 and 2s and Escort mk4s so thats really saying something.
The VXR models would have to be radically different to the normal ones for them to be anywhere near decent.
That said, the cars I drove all had stonking engines - even in basic form. Just let down by the chassis/car itself. (And those infuriating gay one-touch indicators lol.)

Do you mean VXR over a 'normal' Astra Dunketh? The Astra VXR being 2 litre turbo

http://www.vauxhall.co.uk/vx/vxr/ind...A#/cars/astra/

The VXR-S and VXR-R tuned versions

http://www.thorneymotorsport.co.uk/t...ra_VXR-R.shtml

Friend of ours is running:
Stage 3 remap
Pace Intercooler
Blue flame 3 " complete turbo back system with fia cat
and gettign 287bhp with 353 lb ft, now it feels like a good car lol

Yeah. I know it sounds like a dumb question.
I'm always suspicious about 'sports' models. Just get the impression they've lobbed a bigger engine in to impress the 'stats boys/braggers' and fitted some flash trim and stopped there.
The vectra I had was wheelspin city. It was only an SRI though so not 'top of the range' or anything so I guess the suspension and whatnot was just cack (they seem to stick SRI badges on everything now).
The astra was just shit, notably so in comparison to a new Golf and Focus TDCI estate I'd had previously. The estate(!) handled better - despite being too light in the back for some corners.
