Dave had a "moment" at 194 where he stood on the brakes and it started to twist sideways slightly, at about that point in time, I realised that actually its not quite as easy as it looks.

That said you dont need to be a pro driver, you just need to be brave enough to keep your foot in despite the rate at which the artic lorries and things at the end of brunters are approaching and inteligent enough not to leave it too late to stand any chance of stopping, its a relatively straightforward exercise in principle, but in practice does feel somewhat more involved!
its the fact most folk would think "easy, just lift off the brakes, straighten it up and then brake again" which is fine, if you like mowing down artics, parked cars and whatever other shit lies at the end of that runway

Indeed, lifting off and letting it settle is of course the answer, the only problem is the artic lorries 600 meters away (or whatever it was) and the fact you are covering 100M a second all the while until you have settled it and can get back on the brakes!
NO drama on a motorway at night doing the same, doesnt matter if it takes you 2 miles to stop, but a big issue in such a confined space at those speeds with nowhere safe to turn to

Lift off an let it settle is not my method.. Lift off and instantly on the brakes as hard as possible without locking the wheels is my way!

Can answer that, if gearing remains the same then a genuine 800bhp will see 208.6mph according to the maths, if longer gearing is required then it will be a tad less than that. The aim with mine is 208/210 off of gas & 213/215 on the hard stuff.

Is 200mph in a Cossie at Brunters easy well only Mark, Myself & Martin can answer that . I was 60 when i did it & 30 years past my best so if you have a car capable of say 206mph almost anyone can reach 200 there, the problem is most wont have that leeway on Power & then it becomes hard.

I love how many people think it is 'easy'

The small handful of committed individuals that have managed to crack 200 or get bloody close prove how difficult it is to do it - properly at least.

If you think your car can do it then grab a video camera, do it, post in on Youtube and wait for the Police to come and congratulate you

I see this guys point.

But isn't it, in a rounabout way, easy? MASSIVE bhp/torque, slippy shell, good driver (helps at least) and well set up in general, it isnt hard when you say it like that. Plenty of 1000bhp+ V8's would fit a saff shell, so you would potentially have a record baiting car.

Bring the parameters in, to a YB based engine, that alone will be a massive task, fair fucking play to all the people who will enter, nothing but respect for you! No matter who you are, no matter what fucking dyno you use, or who maps it, etc etc, its still a big ask to do 200mph in a limited space with 2 litres (or thereabouts) and a turbo.

Spot on Chipper! I'd love to be involved, but need to do lots more (Tremec box, 9" diff) and these babies aren't cheap, plus the car's still not running any whre near full power yet. Just enjoying having it on the road for a change and taking people out for a blast

Will be having a go at some less damaging stuff soon like standing mile, 30-130 and the like

Tbh this is what i am more interested in reading about rather than top speed. This would be something different to read about as far as Ford's are concerned, its all top speed, 0-60, 1/4.

Yes Chip, I'm looking for an old 4x4 bottom end (or whole engine for the right money) if any body is selling one, to do just that. The plan is once the transmission is sorted, and the block is bullet proof, we're looking at a GT40 and 700+ on pump fuel

You at Coombe Saturday mate? If so see you there.

That reminded me of Martoon's 200 day.
He got back to the start knowing it had revved higher in top speed than ever before. The Stack said 201mph (IIRC), then we checked the laptop and it was 'only' 198.?mph (IIRC).
Never seen a man so disappointed to have just broken his own World's Fastest Escos/World's Fastest 4WD Cos/World's Fastest non gas Cos/whatever it's called record!

Two comments about that.
One, that car's aerodynamics are such that it would be FAR more stable at high speeds than the highly unsuitable bricks that the 200mph veterans/wannabes on this forum have decided to employ.
And two, a Gallardo struggles to do 180mph at Brunters. So not only are these Fords far less stable, they are also accelerating FAR faster than most supercars...

Here's an analogy about top speed at Brunters Vs top speed on motorway:

Usain Bolt reaches around 27mph over the 100m. That's our car doing a top speed on a motorway.
Now ask him to reach 27mph in a 15m long room. And he has to come to a complete stop before hitting the wall at the other end of the room. That's our car doing a top speed at Brunters.
Which one represents the greater challenge?

Chip, ideally I need just an old 200 block so I can get my Nikasil Liners fitted to it, then my block would be scrap.

Dan,

Is this limited to cossie engines only or any Ford car with a Ford engine as you stated on the other thread?

Would be well worth trying to get a GT to attend and there is a guy local to us with a Houser prepared supercharged new Mustang that he races up the strip. Its a pretty serious bit of kit and i'm sure it would get near 200mph.

The only reason Rodney agreed to this challenge in the first place was on the hope everyone would back out, and he'd challenged everyone and they feared him and said no so he could spent another 12 months claiming he tried to get it going. Now the challenge is taking off and looking promising, he's not interested. He'd have done the exact same thing in all the other threads within the last three years.

I hope it goes ahead, I'd love to see it.

Benni.

Benni.
