I've been offered a brand new one of these for £900. Its internally gated. Are these a good turbo? Whats the rough boost threashold and what engine spec do i need to make the most of it?

I think this is what cossierich has and its what i was looking at as it'll do 450 ish hp with similar response to a t34 but with a stronger top end. £900 is a good price

Cossierich has a GT3071R I believe, 3076R is a 500bhp turbo though I'm not sure how it is internally gated

You can compare an 3076 power to a t4, but with a LOT better spool up and responce m8

lol, there must be hundreds of threads where i argue this point

if you compare it to a ball bearing t4 then there is barely any difference, infact the t4 is probably a touch better due to the back pressure when at 510-520hp ! there isnt a massive difference though

also, being in a few gt30 powered cars recently i dont think theyre any better in the car, get full boost a tad before 4000 and pull just as well as bbt4,

just my opinion though

Jimbo : depends on the exhaust housing m8, have been in a few cars now with theese fitted, some bad, some pretty good.
It´s a big turbo, but not as bad as you make it tho.
You have to spec the turbo acordingly to the rest of the engine, not just put it on a std car and expect to get a lightning machine.
Have just tested a car with a 3076 with a 63 back housing, and was surprised to see full boost @ 3400rpm.
Car did 477bhp btw

Btw, did a comparison to s std t4, not an uprated one

do you think we would would put a gt30 on a standard engine ?! lmao

all have been on a .63 housing, you saw full boost at 3400 ?!

where did it peak power ?

the ones ive been in have been road engines both 500hp at just over 7000 iirc

a really nice road engine though, for my age im old school lol, ill be going non bb t4 and rs500 inlet in my car, just like back in the 80's when 500hp was mental

You can probably get a 3076r for the same price (maybe less) brand new from Reyland

i wouldn't be surprised at that spool on the .63 housing but thats the reason for your max hp if you couldn't get anymore from it. in .86 guise its a 525bhp capable turbo

I might be wrong but i thought they were more like £1400 which makes them considerably more than a GT30.

Would you still say they are £500 better than a GT30???

dont think theyre that much

and if they were 1400 thats a price from a turbo place not a private sale like paul rs is getting

a new gt30 is around 1000-1100 now with the dollar not being so good arnt they ?

well anyway there is a couple of hundred £ tops between them

i would still go for the t4,,, ever measure back pressure on a gt30 at 500hp ? even better, ever measure an internally gated gt30 at 500hp ? its scary some of the reading showed, well over boost pressure

the t4 is still quite high, dont think its quite as high though

also you have to run a dump valve with the gt30 dont have to with t4

As I understand it the ball bearing T4 has a machined shaft to convert it, and as such whilst you gain in terms of a lower boost threshold, you lose some of advantage a T4 gives - it's hard as a bare knuckle gypsy fighter. Having said that one reason to opt for a GT turbo (at least whilt the £ was strong vs the $) was that when the turbo expired it was cheaper than the T series so would just be replace. Speak to whichever tuner you go for, as they each seem to have their preferences.

All the above is IMO - I'm no expert.

This argument has been raging since the dawn of GT30's ... Has anyone actually done a back to back test on a GT30 Vs T4(bb) on the same engine on the same dyno?

Got you, couldn't work out if it was an acronym or a spelling mistake .. The other thing is when people compare T4 to the GT series is the majority of GT's need an external gate, so costs are very similar anyway.

But, has anyone done a back to back test on the same engine of the different turbos?
