it's either going to be the switch or even possibly an earth fault

there have also been reports that the rear lights can cause the headlights to pack up, the most obvious one being that you put the wrong bulb in the brake lights and evern time you press the brakes the headlights come on, so peole think youare flashing them through

but the switch would be the first port of call, although where you've get a replacement from is anyones guess

Thanks i will maybe see if a friend will lend me his to try. Is it easy to test the switch without having another one? With a volt meter or anything?

There are 3 relays in the fuse box to do with the dip beam. There are 2 small ones in positions F and B, and a larger one in position II.

Is it both drivers side and passenger side that don't work (the lights are earthed differently, so this will probably eliminate relay II as being a problem)?

Are the bulbs OK ?

Have you got 12V at the headlights on the yellow wires ?

If you haven't got 12V, check for 12V at both fuses 3 and 4.
If you haven't got 12V at fuses 3 and 4, remove relay F and check you've got two 12V feeds (at one of the big terminals (30) and one of the small terminals (86)).

Cheers i will give that a try.

Yeah it is both drivers and passenger sides.

I had a really quick look and i dont think there is any power to the head light fuses but it was a very quick look so i would need to check again for def.

Does the suggest that it is the smaller relays could be the problem?

If you've got both 12V feeds (one switched via the ignition at pin 86, and one from the stalk at pin 30), then this would suggest the relay, but if one of those feeds is missing, then it could be the stalk or the wiring to or from the stalk - you'll have to get your meter out and let us know what you've got.
