Default Do water swirl pots actually work?

noticed my car was getting pretty hot on a track day i did last week, and was hovering around the 100 degree mark. Got a alloy rad and cooler fitted, and was wondering if i fitted a swirl pot to the water system, would it help cool it down a tad? anyone had good results? and by how much did it lower it?

Cheers!

i thought it was to take the airlocks out of the water not cool the water, if the temps are too hot then its time for a better rad IMO or maybe look at the thermostat might be sticking also perhaps

clean out the system with a good flush and then retest again might be a idea

A swirl pot has no cooling ability, I wouldn't be worried about 100C if it were a hot day as well, could try a cooler running stat in case yours is a bit sluggish, but I would guess yours was already fully open.
Are the rad and cooler paneled in ?, as this helps a lot.

turbo cooler makes quite a difference, much more than a swirl pot imo

ok thanks chaps. Just been reading that it removes air from the system so the rad can work more effeciently. The rad in it is an "airtec" jobbie. Is was a really hot day, and the header tank was starting to boil over a little @ 100c. What else can i do to try lower the temps? to be honest, its mint on the road and runs about 75-80 when driving.

if its boiling, you may be loosing presure somewhere, as it shouldnt boil at 100degs when pressurised,

do the fans work?

Your just experiencing the extra pressures that the race track puts on cars. What temp is "ok" for your water when on track and what car are u talking about?

My oil on the M3 can end up really high when on track but the water temp just seems to stay in the same place all day every day.

Cheers

But as in my mates car a turbo cooler overcooled it sat in the mid 60's on the motorway

So would be ideal on a track car

James don't forget to do that cam belt on the evo

i must do it, time isnt my freind lol

i tell you what, i always thought of putting a thermostaic bypass on the turbo cooler on mine, so it bypassed it below 85 degs

its my 3dr cossie. Its the first time iv'e ever tracked it so im not too fussed really. Just wondered if there where any easy add-ons for track use. The fans definately work, as i ran the car up before we went to see if they kicked in.

might have a look at one of these turbo coolers. They look like a mini rad dont they?

that water wetter is fooking cack AL, used it before and made no difference. And yes its an airtec alloy rad. Like is said, its fine on the road and never gets hot. i just thought it got a tad hot on track, but it seems like 100c is about right after 15-20 mins or so on track.

It's one of a number of possibilities, but a knackered header tank cap could be to blame.

it does sound like its leaking mate, shouldnt boil at 100deg C in a sealed system.

and 100deg on track is fine. if it was sealed, it would be lower lol

.....or your head gasket is just starting to weep a little and pressurise the system? Maybe the track day has just pushed it a little harder than it gets on the road? Just a thought.

100C water is fine on track. When pushing on I often used to see 115c water and 120c oil!!!!!I've moved my intercooler which seems to have helped the water temp at Croft last month.Regards,Micky
