I presume you mean you currently have one light and a switch at either end of the garage to switch it on and off? You need to run a twin and earth cable from the first light to the next light then out of there into the last one....i.e a live, neutral and earth, make sure you earth the fittings as they're most likely to be metal.

100%, thats how to do it, you only need 1.5mm twin & earth for lights too not 2.5

Ah yeah...i forgot to say that! 1mm will be adequate too if you can't get 1.5mm. Straight forward job if you have basic electrical knowledge.

not to upset you or anything but its illegal to carry out electrical work in your house

It's not "Illegal" (criminal) as such, it's a contravention of Building Regs.

Carrying out the work is not a problem, it just needs final connection, testing and notifying by a Part P person.

Except you are allowed to add extra lights to an existing circuit without notifying.

And NO your Insurance company won't refuse to pay out if they find out.
And there won't be any early morning wake up visits from the PART P STAZI.

I've been an Electrical Technician for over 40 years and I'm not Part P, so of course I can't do any work at home..
I'm also Corgi (now Gas-safe) registered, but only Commercial, so I can't service my own boiler either.

Any work you do just state it weas like that before you moved in. I did.

Ive put a good few extra sockets in and put electric to the garage underground with armoured cable new fuse box 2 twin tubes and a couple of double sockets.

As for the 1.5mm, it wont matter if you use 2.5mm on lighting as long as you don't use 1.5mm for the mains.

There are so many diy fuck-wits out there that do some unbelievable dumb things it's just untrue

Part P, is over the top, especially for people like focusv8 who are more than capable of wiring up a football stadium or a 300 bedroom hotel but not paper qualified to do stuff at home

i was corgi registered aswell,i work on the rigs now so im didnt transfer over to the gas safe register,i know its legal for folk to do gas work in their house as long as its tested by somebody thats a registered installer.its all paperwork and anybody could get registered if they can read a book and find the answer.ill tackle the lights when i get home tomorrow,i think i have some 1.5mm wire that i got a while back with the lights aswell.how do i wire up some extra sockets in the garage?theres a double wall mounted box at 1 end,do i just put in an extra wire and run it to the new sockets?i only want 1 other wall mounted double socket at the other end, also what size wire do i need?ta,lee
