Neil_S. I didn't have the HHHOOONNNDAAAA track with me, otherwise it would have been on.. bah

Chop. LOL - was a BUSY BUSY man. Will explain all the detail later. First they fitted the wrong tyres, then I had to stand about waiting for another set of tyres to be delivered and then fitted and then I had to drive 450miles home, via picking up Sham etc. So was just a mental day. Straight home, wash it at 1:30am, take it into work the next day and then at 1:30pm leave work to get ready for the Caledonian Challenge. Walk 54 miles through the night for that too.. So was a mad weekend.

Aqua: It is already run in. 8200 miles.

lol - why would you be "impressed" by me going to the speed limiter before the car was run in? That would be daft and not good for it.

I had just picked the car up that afternoon, I bought it with 7,900 miles on it.

Was that 160 mph plus? Hard to tell at the crucial moment!

Thought you'd be stuck at 155, bugger racing you now!

Need to see some pics of the new car Steve, it looks awesome just from the speedo shot

Mate has a white one, looks the bollocks

Can u not hear me say "that is the limiter, 170"? I can on my version.

Last one limited at 168, that is quite a bit of cash for 2mph ...

Limiter has to go at some stage, but not willing to pay a large price for a chip that does nothing but remove speed limiter. Maybe stu has one on a totally standard map except limiter that he can look out for a reasonable price. I will ask

Zooommmm...

What happens at 167mph? rev limiter, speed limiter or runs out of power?

Surely 575bhp, would mean u are not hitting a limit of the power? 340bhp e46 m3 would do that speed.

Gear limit I believe, not sure if my engine has any more revs over standard, but people say the box I have means 167 is the most you get?

I don't know, since the last one with the long final drive broke, it sounds like it is struggling / really revving at 160 mph odd. I don't think there's another 20 mph in it if I kept my foot in for example.

The first box lasted 2 weeks or so max, so never got to really push it on taller gearing.

It get's there quick enough mind

When are you taking yours on track? I trust it will see a Ring trip soon?

Ring trip september all going well.

Yes it looks like the above picture

Surely you can calculate what speed your car will do based on known rev limiter and known mph per 1000 in top gear?

In the grand scheme of things, much about 160 to 170, imo, isn't really required for regular road/autobahn use anyway.

Quoted as I can not believe RW says 160-170 mph is not for regular road use

Yeah, I'm sure with some maths I could work it all out, or I could just enjoy it whatever it does (although getting the final drive out of the old box is still on my list of things to do!)

Enjoy it Steve, bloody lovely car, sound awesome, and have torque lower down that the E46 and E36 M3's lacked, so drive fast all of the time.

Nice choice

I should have said 'everyday' use, as it is more specific than everyday (As I have two cars at the moment so this one is not going too and from work). Previous car was used everyday and so saw the speed limiter all the time.

When u heading back to the ring? I want to go when it is reasonably quiet so I can put some proper laps in. I have the cup tyres on it, Electronic damper control and the 7 speed box, so it should go quite well

Cheers

We hoped for a September trip, but funds are tight I did one in Oct 07 with the Black Evo, and it was brilliant. Still ok weather wise and quieter.

We'll see. Be good to get some one who knows the lines to show me the way round, I want a sub 8 not a just over 8 lap.

You probably need time with a proper instructor out there. My lines are 'reasonable' but nothing more special than most people who have had 4 trips out there.

I believe that the real time to be made up is in areas like Fuchsohre, where the pro's go totally flat through and break on the way up the otherside after the compression. That and the right hander at flugplatz. Hmm - also add, taking the bends flat after PF2. I am sure there are a good few seconds to be made up there on anything I have ever done.

So you are low 8's now? Is that in the 575bhp monster? Sounds great

Cheers

Hows it handle compared to your old M3? Didnt that have some fancy suspension on it or was that somebody else?

Old m3 had intrax controversy set-up properly. Current one has electronic damper control, so can be stiffened up with a button in the cabin. Hard to say what is best.

Old one was on Michelin PS2 road tyres, new one on Michelin Pilot sport cup+ (more track orientated, plus stiffer side walls).

Steering rack on new one is faster.

New one feels ridiculously stable at high speeds, but geometry is still set standard, thus no aggressive front end. Good turn in, tends to reduce straightline stability.

Will let u know when i get a chance to push it.

Power wise, it pulls much stronger than the previous one, especially after 100mph.

Cheers
