Default off work sick because of.......

an incident at 4:20am on the line this morning

was working the 03:10 from manchester airport to blackpool north, left preston at 04:15, everything going nice and well, then get about 1.5 miles out of preston towards kirkam and wesham and then the driver throws the brake into emergency, i hear a thud from the front of the train and then a loud bang from under my rear cab and see somthing come out the back, rung the driver and he said he had hit "something", told him i'd protect the line, go back inspect and contact the signaller.

on walking back towards the signal post telephone to contact preston box, while inspecting the line, my worst fears acomb - we had hit someone and, well, suffice for the injuries, and the smell - the stench, he/she was dead, and in more than one piece.

i carried out all the relevant procedure according to the rulebook and the police attended etc etc, continued to blackpool and now just got home after filling in all the paperwork etc etc - and its only just starting to sink in whats happened. i'm shaking like a shitting dog, feel sick, crying and wimpering like a baby - think a state of shock has set in

work are very supportive - manager has said take as long as i need, and same goes for the driver, altho he didnt come to inspect the line due to been a bit distressed at the time, offered councilling which i will be taking i think.

just needed somewhere to get it off my chest - the first of many suicides no doubt for my career

As said mate not much you could have done. imo peeps who chuck them self under trains or anyother forms of suicide that affect other peeps are cowards At least if u want to do it gas yourself in a car or somthing so no one else gets caught up in it.

But as said thats one hell of a road kill jk btw not being serious

my mates dad used to work for british rails clean up crew at kingscross

the would clean up the trains and carry on without telling people what happened

also when i was in secondry school there was a kid whos parents where going through a divorse and was constantly arguing and he couldnt handle it

remember him muttering on in a science lessen hed had enough of it, you could see the way he was too, he really changed

anyway 3 days later he got hit by a train, the police said they couldnt confirm if he got trapped or he do it himself

makes ya think people

oh kings cross has loads as theres a mental hospital around there , lot of them deicde enough is enough

ifs theres anything i can do them just pm me

Don't really know what to say... but unlucky.

It's sad that a "coward" for want of a better word, has to make others live with the memory of something like this.

Chin up mate, get on with life, gaurenteed this will make you respect life more, as it can be over as quick as it started.

I once read that workin on the line is one of most stressful jobs precisely because of what you describe happened. My bro in law used to drive trains and some stupid drunk guy did a train dodge infront of his train. He was a bit of a state for a while after that. Hope you feel better soon matey.

Try not to feel to bad if some daft fucker wants to dance with a train.

Nothing you could have done

Jeeesus dude, that's proper gash

Like gurnE says though, it's not worth worrying about - ain't your drama to worry about mate, and it sounds like you've got your head screwed on properly if you did all your procedures properly.

Look at it this way mate - it ain't gonna make you pregnant

Seriously, don't stress it, k?
