makes me laugh, they go to great lengths to make sure cars aint too noisy at Bruntingthorpe... then half way thru the day they fire that fukker up, and the ground shakes where its SO loud!

Team HOTHOT!
If you like hte Vulcan then watch that new program on Nat Geo hosted by Chris Barrie (Rimmer lol) - "Britains Greatest" or something along those lines - they are doing the Vulcan this week on there
#11
Yes, but they do not fire it up very often, you are best consulting their website. Bruntingthorpe is also the home of two privately owned English Electric Lightnings. They are fired up with more frequency and are able to fast taxi.
Cue gratuitous shot of my old bike!!!!!

Lots of great planes which arent kept in military historic flights will be sadly lost due to such stupid rules. Cant see any harriers, tornados, jaguars etc getting a CAA license to fly. Sure they cost shit loads to keep air worthy but theres some rich people who would do it with some of them!

Thanks, that would have made me 14, which I would guess is about right as my Dad took me along, and he managed to get us on a couple of helicopters for a nosey round as he used to work on them.
Think it's time I took my old man back to the same event, with him as my guest!

PassionFord Post Whore!!
Saw the Vulcan at the Southport Airshow last year, it was in a Display with the Eurofighter, the difference in size is hoooooge
My dads got a couple of great stories about the Vulcan,
When it was launched it did a flyby over British Aerospace in Chadderton where they made part of the wings, it went fairly low and ended up smashing the top floor windows of the building and at Eaves Lane school around the corner
They used to hold an Airshow at BA Woodford, my dad was on Police duty there at the roundabout end of the runway, he said he could have touched the wings had he raised his arm up, When the Vulcan came to take off he said the ground was rumbling it was that meaty, and it sounded like Armageddon in a bad mood when it was roaring up the runway.

10K+ Poster!!
I'd really like to go along to that air show really, massively interested in old aircraft as most of my family are X RAF and I spent 2 years living in Oman so it was my life once. The Vulcan bomber was always flying around this area back in the day, since the closure of all the air bases round here I hardly see anything unless something is on at Duxford.
Anyone from Blackpool should remember the Vulcan that lived at Blackpool airport, when I lived up there we would pass it everyday on the way to school and on a recent visit back up there I noticed it had gone ? what happened to it ?
My uncle flew lightnings and a good friend of my mum runs a flight school flying them abroad somewhere, there is a website about it somewhere I'll find out what is was for those that might be interested in it.
Some may remember the pictures from Oman I posted before, I still have loads left to scan in and most probably have loads of similar ones of Lightnings and more Hunters and Jaguars etc.

The vulcan did a fly past over Lancaster last summer.
iirc it was for a funeral of someone who was to do with the fund raising to restore it.
Unbelievable sound was really low. Awesome

A pub landlord from Droylesden way bought it, got it shifted to Oldham in a few pieces while he got planning permission to site it (i think at his pub) but he couldnt do it, then it just disappeared into thin air.

Bloody love this plane.
Me and the other half saw is last year at Waddington (Sadly on the Sunday when they didnt manage to get it up )
Its a real shame that so many good planes go to waste.
Hopefully I'll see it flying this year, me and the other half are a bit geeky for airshows. Eastbourne, Biggin Hill and Waddington are usually the ones we go for.
