You have to be realistic, of coarse things can break on a bmw however my e46 m3 has over 300bhp standard and everytime i put me foot down i aint worrying about it melting a piston or doing a head gasket like i was in all of my old cossies. Plus you can pick 1 up for the same money as an escort cossie and there is just no comparison between the 2 cars imo the m3 is a far far superior car in every way, but like you say yes they break just like every other car and there not an unbeatable missile just a nice comfy quick car

You should of gotten the 2 litre version as a minimum - the 4 cylinder engine is pretty gutless and leaves the car woefully underpowered

What year is it ( I might have missed that )? It might be a 2 litre anyway in capacity.

The ones badged as 320 petrol were a 2.2 litre six in later times .

BMW badging is a bit misleading at times

Thats' right and I think around 2002 onwards 318 were 2.0 but at the other end of the scale it works backwards if you have a 335 its actually a 3.0
