Renault 5 Turbos?
What are peoples opinions on them.
I restored one 2 years back for the wife, she had it for 2 weeks and made me sell it so she could get something newer
now i fucked the wife off im really tempted to get another,
Also i like the wide body early ones, gordini's arnt they? how much do these go for?
and for the later ones, whats better phase one or two?
i restored a red phase 2. seemed pretty quick for what it was and held the road nicely.

I love the look of Phase 1 R5GTT's.
The early ones suffered iffy wiring iirc and they all have cooling issues and do head gaskets. My mate had one (Phase 2 Raider) with an uprated gasket on, twin core intercooler, low temp stat and fan switch and it never missed a beat. It got its head kicked in at 1 bar of boost all the time.

Delta's can suffer from iffy wiring too and everyone slates them for unreliability, my mate had one (Evo 1) and rebuilt the engine himself and it never missed a beat. Was 338bhp @ 16 psi. They handle like they are on rails mate

its all about the 5 pot
The red one at the top is a turbo 2, they are worth a fair whack, the gordini's are the 1st shape. Id go for a decent grey or white pahze 2, a late H/J plate. Great cars, just hard to find a nice one.

That's not a Gordini, that's a 'Turbo'.
This is a Gordini
The Turbo/Turbo 2, Gordini and GT Turbo are three very different cars!
GTTs are great fun, but poor build quality and the fact that so many are caned and neglected means that virtually all are money pits.

i had one years ago on a h plate.Had a upgraded turbo in it and i strapped the intercooler as they are known to blow apart and fitted a manual fan switch.Never had any problems with it and loved it.It was like a gokart and bloody quick as you like.
Would have another if anyone wanted to swap for my cab turbo!

Did someone not do a cossy conversion to an R5GTT, that caught fire ?? Am sure i remember this from Max Power or Revs or something similar many many moons ago.
If it rings any bells does anybody have pics or a link?

I have Ph2 Tungsten Grey 5 and they are awesome little cars. As far as head gaskets go, they have a reputation but it is more down to the mods and the owners. If you wind the boost up and dont take care of the rest of it then yeah it will pop but that isnt really the cars fault. Sadly there are a lot of thrashed or poorly maintained ones out there but there are also a few gems! RTOC is a good site and very friendly.

there was a 4x4 cossie 1 built years ago by djm motorsport and it caught fire.
I have built a mid engined rwd Cossie powered 1. Only downside is it's yellow lol, for now.
As said buy a crap 1 and it will cost loads and b crap like any car.
