IMO a reasonable Top Speed would be a GPS indicated 160+

A lairy Top Speed for a road car is anything over a GPS indicated 180.

Cheers,

FOR ME personally.
(seeing as my speedo only goes up to 140!! lol)

a GOOD top speed would be a GPS indicated 150 MPH
i'd say. (for my car personally)

(im running a N/A 2ltr engine)

cant really say for you cossie owners,, but i'm impressed when anyone says about a 165+ cossie!!

just as i thought , its one off speeds that alot of you are after

how often do you do 170 mph in your car ?

alot of the performance in your car is lost in tha fact that it isnt geared for its normal use

was just wondering thats all

everytime i go on the M1 or M25

i find the performance it delivers from the standard gearing not to bad tbh,but know what you mean,in real terms the car doesnt go above 135ish on the roads i use mainly so the gearing could be changed to suit this

i dont think people understood what you meant mate, i sure as hell didnt which is why i never replied

it reads to me, what in your opinion is a respectable top speed for any car....in which case i would say 150+ is good.
i assume what you really mean is, if you are gearing your own car, what would you settle for top end whilst obviously bearing in mind acceleration etc.

in which case i would say 130mph is fine for me, if i was properly gearing it tho i would prob. drop that to 120 cos im not really into top end, much prefer acceleration

ok maybe i didnt explain it too well

im just thinking about the likes of the 1/4 milers etc etc , and the road going people , i know that for road cars teh lower the revs at cruise the better for mpg etc etc , but was thinking at what point would you actually go and change the gearing ???

I would prefer a lower geared car, the top end wouldn't be as much but would pull better. You'll only get banned for going over a ton anyway

Ive lost a race before on the M5 in the 3dr when was pulling over 6.5k revs in 5th and the other car was just edging away.

So i think 200mph, just to be safe

OR if got such mental power nobody can keep up, 170 or so should do it

ohh i see what you mean.

well, my car round the B roads here usually gets to 110 ish.

but as said, not really in league with cossie owners as its a n/a zetec!

For long distance cruising on motorways it gets a bit edgey at anything over 140 IMO!

Ok... Understand what this is all about now!!

I agree, about 125 would be fine as if I go faster than that, I'll be keeping the foot to the boards for a Top Speed Run. Which is very rare now.

Cheers,
Grant

over here, where a lot ofthe autobahns are limit free, and because the country is quite large, you would think that i would be saying a high speed. depending on the car really. on a shonky 15 year old sierra, i find it unnerving to drive at more than about 130 for any length of time. 150 is definitely getting to the point where you don't want to go any faster as things are happening bloody quickly.

I personally aint overly fused on top speed would sooner have a car that did a stanmding 1/4 in 10sec than a car that did over 200mph!

But I would say a accpetable speed of over 150! 160+ would b good just so u got hat lil extra over the 155 limiter most new cras r fitted with lol!
