You can get a supressor and plug it in the back of your headunit to solve this

I thought suppressors plug in between the amp and RCA cables not between the RCA cables and headunit? Or doesn't it matter as in the above case there isn't an amp?

the main cause of interference is the alternator charge process, the radio picks up the signal noise, and amplifies it.

it is also rpm related...

a simple supressor on the alternator, which almost all should have, will solve it

thats the sort of thing,

most alternators have them bolted on the back with a small flylead coming off them

alot of people dont know what they are or do, so bin them

never known power and earth cables to cause issues

but running rca cables close to power cables is an issue

i always run them down oposite sills to avoid issues

I had this problem as well whenever I connect my 6x9s up to my amp and my RCA and power cables run down different routes completely. I was told it was my HU as I have a Pioneer and certain models have crap internal earthing apparently (guy who told me this runs his own ICE shop) so bought one of these inline suppressors but haven't fitted it yet think they attached between RCA cables and amp so hopefully this filters out the noise.

P.S. the alternator or amp or speakers or HU don't get damaged or anything do they with the noise there? Because I've since permanently disconnected my 6x9s because I thought something might go wrong but generally I play music loud enough to not hear the high pitched noise so is it OK if I connect them back up again?

It's just interference, so it won't do any damage.

Virtually all new headinits have ISO connectors, so you just need a Ford-to-ISO. Either Google Autoleads, or see what Halfords have got (their stuff is just rebadged Autoleads stuff)

most cars from the mid 80's if not earlier should have a suppressor on the alternator, the noise can also be caused by bad earths on the wiring.

Although I highly rate Pioneer head units, I've always gone back to them as they outclass anthing else imo, I will say that the ground loop in them is very poor!

They are very easy to burn out, oftem caused by disconnecting/reconecting power terminals to an amp without disconnecting the rca leads. This causes a power surge up the rca to the headunit, thus blowing the ground loop.

This can be repaired easy enough by any competent audio specialiast

I've never disconnected my power lead off the HU without turning the HU off first. But I do think as you said Pioneer are in a class of their own. I got my HU for £200 lucky enough over a year ago and it still retails for £270 in the UK!

Read it again - it says disconnecting/reconnecting power to the amp without first disconnecting the rca's
