Default FAO Washing machine experts? Orion crazy carl?

I NEEEEEED help! Washer started making a high pitched drill like sound yesterday, i got slightly concerned then realised that its got no spin, its just making a very strange sound,

Cant get the back off it to have a look as its all star drives and we dont have any

Anyone know what its likely to be? I do check pockets etc before stuff goes in the wash, so i know theres nothing in there jamming it, but if i try and turn the drum it wont turn freely its really stiff and making a really bad groaning sound when you do so.

Its a Hotpoint WMA62 and ive had it 8yrs with barely any problems, so is it totally knackered or is it easily fixed? I really do need the washer with having 5 of us in the house

sounds like the bearings in the drum or motor have seized

Yeah it is probably the bearing at the back.

Our washing machine the bearing collapsed in it and the drum wore a hole through the outer plastic that keeps the water in, luckily the washing machining is in the garage or it would have flooded the place.

Then we bought a new one and it wrecked all the clothes as there was the smallest nick in the drum. Whirlpool said it would be 8 weeks to get a new drum from italy i think it was lol. Needless to say we got a new one as we said we werent waiting for a drum to come then it needed engineer to come out and fit it and they paid for all the clothes that where destroyed.

you again the noise could also be the brushes arcing out, but if the bearings are gone, then it could be that causing that to!!
shame ya not closer otherwise id come stick a set of bearings init, but if ya brave have a go ya self, bearings are cheap as chips and u can call on me for some help!if u send it down i can do it,lol
if u book a call it will cost ya 110 quid ish, sounds a lot, but thats all included and coverd.
its a quality machine, its well worth getting fixed!

Funnily enough I changed the motor brushes on me old dears Hotpoint yesterday. The drum didn't turn and the motor just made a buzzing sound. Yours sounds like something different to be honest, you NEED to get the cover off dammit.

This machine is a WM62P and on the back at the very top there are 3 philips screws. Undo them and slide the top off backwards, and voila.

Sounds like the bearings. If you do change them, make sure you give the outer of the drum and the inside of the tub a bloody good clean before you put it back together, otherwise the grease from the bearings which normally sticks to the tub will continue to get into your clothes. Have you noticed any small black or grey coloured circles on your clothes?
