What car for stock championship?
following Elvis post about doing some track racing ive been looking into entering the 750 Stock hatch championship.
The car needs to be either a 1.4 16v or 1.6 8v
the mods to them are really limited so need a good fast car to start of with what do you guys think
XR2i
XR2
XR3I
205 gti 1600?
what would you guys go for? im thinking a EFI XR3i as there bit faster and reliable than the mfi versions

For 1.6 8v i'd go with a Peugoet S2 Rallye, i'd also be tempted by a 8v 1.3 S1 Rallye, they are flying machines, easily as fast in a straight line as the cars you mentioned.

Engine wise the VTS and 106 GTI are exactly the same just the maps and gearing in 2nd I think.
The VTS is nearly a second quicker 0-60 as second gear is longer than the 106. It's also abit lighter, about 20kg.
EDIT - Just realised they have to be an 8v 1.6.

I'm running an XR2i in Stock Hatch at the moment which is a class B car (pre '92). Th ecars out there are XR2i, XR2, Nova or Pug 205.
If you want to be nearer the front, then you will have to get a class A car such as a Saxo (vast majority), Pug 106, Citroen C2 (special exemption), Ford Sport Ka.
Whatever you buy / build make sure you can afford to repair and run it (entries, testing, transport, repairs). It is more or less a certainty it will get damaged to a greater or lesser extent during the season.
Also worth while joining the Stock Hatch Forum (www.phil-law.co.uk) for advice / cars for sale etc

what budget could you get started with? i have been looking at a few cars, i have a land rover and trailer already to tow with so it would be the cost of the car and any license fee's etc to get started with? would 5 grand see me on the track?

if i remember correctly the saxo is allowed a low lift cam. saxo 90bhp to start and the rallye is 103. both allowed to be blueprinted on standalone. but the rallye has the better box. the vtr box is taller.!!!
go for a rallye u wont regret it they look cool standard too lol!!

Unless you have them already don't forget to budget for ARDS test, race license, race suit and helmet.
