Motorsport peeps? cheap race series?
i have been thinking about it for quite a while,
i would like to have a go at a race series or even hill climb, more as a serious hobby than anything else.
can anyone point me in the direction of affordable race series?
no ferrari cup challanges etc.

how about short oval racing very cheap in comparison to most series. Visit stockcar.co.uk. Both contact and non contact stock rods would be a good place to start.

just finding my feet
banger racing or stock cars,,, one is more fun, cheeper,,,, the other is still fun,, costs a bit more,,, needs more prep work on the car,,,,,,, though it hurts a little less ive been told
though you cant take part in the destruction derby at the end in stocks

I have a friend who has just joined the Kumho BMW challenge series, which is pretty good. He has prepped a 320i E36 3 Series car, which is pretty fun, and is overall probably as cheap as any.
The best thing is that it is relatively new, so it is not dominated by the usual suspects just yet, and there are four classes if I recall, so as you progress, you can upgrade your car to faster classes.

oval racing is uber gay, and karts are for kids and teenagers.
i am prepared to spend money on it, i just dont have 200k a year or something to piss about.

so is that purely on racing a year then? if so you will hav no problem doing that! racing will never be cheap as F1 consistently proves(210mil on a car and ferrari cant get better than bronze) but you will easily be able to get into a good one make championship for that!
alternatively, as frazer put above, 205 challenge is one of the cheapest stage rally champs about, or even the BTRDA stuff would easily be covered by that budget. you would even get into the fiesta sporting trophy although might be a bit tight on the first year after buying a car (Ł20k ish)...
either way Ł30-40k is a generous ammount to race with!

LMA Euro Saloons is quite a reasonable series - I think its about Ł300 a race, Khumo again is quite reasonable. Im involved in Britcar and you get 90 min races insstead of say 20 laps etc but the costs are much more compared to other series ie: Roughly Ł2-4.5k to enter per race (depending if its a double header & on which circuit), Ł900 if you wanna do the practice day, 2 sets of tyres for the weekend Ł1900, fuel, oil's, parts, crashes - it all add's up! The 24hr race is really good though.

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
I race in the 750 motorclub which offers the cheapest ways to go circuit racing, usually between Ł195 and Ł275 for each event (Ł195 = 1 race, Ł275 = 2 days racing).
http://www.750mc.co.uk/racing.php
With 750mc you could do either stockhatch (up to 1.6) MR2's (all models) or Golfs (Mk2 8v & 16v), or single seaters or kit cars.
Stockhatch is what I'm doing (106 xsi), you can buy a car all ready prepared from Ł2k+, a front running car will more likely be Ł6k+.
Sprinting is one of the easiest place to start you can use a road based car and a basic race licence and you on track on your own so no one is going to push you off, maybe a good stating point

Never see this one and its ideal for me as snetterton is local and i love that track.
tbh for the stock hatch whats the best car in your opinion.
what are xr2s like on there. whos the leader and driving what.
i would have a good backing from a sponser from a few good solicitors.

What about auto time trials etc...that really is a cheap form of motorsport. We turned up once to a lcoal event in our road cars, had a really enjoyable evening's racing against the clock on a well planned out course for peanuts of an outlay.
Search out a local car club to join....I dont mean one that is mainly built up chavs either
Here's our localish one...
