I know a relay basically works as a switch etc...
But how does the cossie one (2WD saph) work, i.e. input and output, what goes in and what comes out??? I have a diagram so I'm trying to understand what is exactly happening when i turn on the ignition.

The fuel pump relay on a cossie is a normal relay. I.E. it does not have any extra electronics in it like for example the RS turbo version.
The ecu controls the relay directly.
When the ecu detects cranks pulses, it turns on the relay for a time delay so that it keeps energised between crank pulses.
When the crank pulses stop, after a short time the ecu turns the relay off.
The ecu turns on the relay by grounding pin 28 on the ecu.
The relay coil has a positive voltage fed from it from the ecu power relay.
The relays contacts are simply a heavy duty power feed via a fuse from the battery and the other goes to the pump.
On 2WD cars, the fuel pump relay supplies the amal valve and idle speed valves too.
Hope that helps.
