Default Help!!!! Xr2i superchip problems!!!

Hello every1,
Basically i own a J reg Xr2i 1.6 8v with a few mods, i bought a genuine"superchips" chip (not 1 of them shitty resister jobs) from ebay, but when i fitted it my car started misfiring and spluttering and all sorts of madness, i tried reseting the ECU by pulling the + lead of the battery and adjustin the fuel pressure up to 2.5 bar but all to no avail, the car smells like its burning a shit load of fuel and hesitates alll through the rev range, i also noticed that when i turn the ignition on the fuel pump does not do a pre-run it just runs as if the car is started, quite strange i think, when i contacted the seller he assured me he had only just unplugged it from the car the morning he posted it and it was all working fine, im baffled to be honest.
If some1 could help id be veryy gratefull.

Is the code on the chip a match for your ecu?

On my mk5 RS2000 I have a 1AGB ECU and the Superchip has to have a matching map flashed onto it.

If yours is ok, then it could be that the contacts need cleaning as they are usually coated with a thickish waxy substance. Carefully scrape and clean this off with the ECU removed from the car.

Does the car run ok with the Superchip removed?

im confident that you have fitted the WRONG chip to your car.

it is also possible that this has damaged the chip and/or the ECU

remove it immediately and contact the supplier reporting the problem.

then go and buy from a REPUTABLE dealer like www.motorsport-developments.co.uk

iirc the fuel pump not priming as normal is a sign the the ecu has entered Limited Operation Strategy (LOS) aka limp home mode

You need a fibreglass pencil for cleaning the contacts (maplin) Ł5.99 also its easier to do this by taking the ecu apart just remember to clean both sides

Ye the cars runs just normall without the chip plugged in, ive seen something about the ecu contact being worn, looks like the cintacts on the chip has been sprayed with white grease aswell i no that probably dont help with contacts,
Ive been tryin 2 find out about the code on the chip to match the ecu but i cant find any sort of reference anywhere,
these are what the chip has on it

please read what i have written as it is CORRECT. stop plugging the thing in!

chips need to match ECUs!

the white grease should always be removed prior to fitting, obviously your chip was NOT froma reputable supplier if he didnt provide you with these simple instructions, nor even find out what ecu you had

find out what codes his ECU has on it and see if it matches yours, also what spec the engine was ie was it a chip for an uprated cam etc, althou tbh it should still run fine off cam, im assuming your engine is standard?!

just get another chip with the right code or dont bother with one

they usually go about for less than 50 quid

sell yours like he did or as 'ready to be reflashed'

i doubt yoll get one for <50quid even from the ebay copiers. the modules themselves cost more than that before programming. its not like cossies where the eprom is worth 10p

Do yourself a favour and remove it, without reading the rest of the thread...its unlikely its giving any beneficial gain in power anyway!

i have unplugged it now, cba with it anymore, sending it back 2moro aswell gettin my nifty back aswell, so lesson learned, dont buy electricals from ebay,
Whilst we are on the subject a mate of mine bought 1 of them resister things for his puma only Ł6.99 advertised as a chip lol, i was adament it would never work but still reluctantly i fitted it to his air flow meter, IT ONLY FECKIN WORKED.
i couldnt believe it we noticed the difference straight away it was a shit load more responsive and seemed 2 pull a bit better and eliminated the flatspot between 2500 and 3000, i never thought it was possible just by telling the ecu to overfuel.
any1 else every tried 1 of them?

Your mate bought a 20p resistor for Ł6.99
All these do is tell the ECU its freezing cold and it overfuels, it will fuck his cat up and possibly borewash over time...
Chuck it and get it done properly

How will he get bore wash its not like its throwin in way to much fuel so its chuckin out black smoke, all it is doin is tellin the e.c.u to basically keep the choke on, another friend of ours (the reason why he decided to get 1 of these resistor thing) has had 1 on his cougar for well over 2 years and he's never had any problems, if it was overfueling to the extent to cause damage from experience i would expect it to keep killin spark plugs.
If it does blow up just mean some extra cash 4 me 2 fix it 4 him lol =D

dru

do you fully understand the complex working of electronic fuel injection?

do you fully understand the complex workings of an internal combustion engine?

if the answer to either of the above is "no" then why would you even try to defend the stupid arse comments above

im telling you now for a fact that i KNOW its bad idea. can you tell me what you KNOW it isn't?
