maybe they are on pay as you go and have low credit or something, wouldn't surprise me for your typical ford owner who it seems can barely afford the basics in life but can somehow afford to spend out on their pride and joy

are you in business ?? I would sau no judging bt your reply, the customer isnt king, good service yes i agree, and i feel i do give they I dont get any complaints
but texing someone to call them back now thats pittyfull,Ive even had calls asking me to call them back,if they cany afford a phone call they cant afford the item
proove that with this joker who texted me,obviously a time waster
texting has its advantages,we have to accept that, sending a message if someone is unavailabe or recieving one if ina meeting or something when you cant answe your phone, but talk is cheap nowerdays
1 phone call can sort soemthing out in 30 secs rather than 10 texts, which take far far longer __________________

I agree with you about it being cheeky to text someone to call you back about a sale.
But if your to tight to send a (free!)text back to someone about how much YOU could sell them an item, then its up to you to lose a sale and profit
Like it or not, texting is part of modern life now.Try and keep up

thing is mate Iam not tight and I did text him back,I also text him a price the day before still no phone call
if you read what I have put,yes there is a time and a place for text messages,I havnt a problem when use in the correct manner, but not for asking someone to call you when you want to buy something,I wouldnt dream of it,and it looks like a lot of other wouldnt either.
one thing though I havnt lost anything who ever text me has lost what they wanted.
personally I call when I want to buy or enquire about anyhting that way it more personal, you get in touch striaght away and you can do the deal in mins, and aslo you dont loose what your after to someone else
how many times has that happened

i sometimes get texts asking for quotes and i do reply and put on end call me if you wish to book it in cos i not got time to fuck about with ten texts to get the details i need. and as for returning calls i do call numbers back if i miss the call (ie i crawling around under a car) as pete did with me once.

but as for the customer who kept hanging up all day so i would call them that is just plain fucking sad

i have to agree with pete, when it comes to texting about buying an item...it does my head in...in my experience people who text or email are most of the time timewasters hence why i NEVER put my mob number in adverts anywhere
my mob is on permanent divert from my landline so i dont miss any SERIOUS enquiries

I suppose it all depends on who she's in the throws of passion with! If I'm already there it's a bit pointless, but if it's with someone else then it's just plain rude!

Text talk does my box in... got a message from a lass I'd not talked to for a while, went something like this:

"Hey stranger how r u? wubu2?"

Then I remembered why I hadn't talked to her for a while... wubu2... is actually meant to mean: What you been up to??

Cheers,
Grant

text is simply just another form of the modern day comms we have, have you thought the during the day people cannot make a phone call whilst at work ? yet a sly text they could get away with ?

My first point of call if i want to buy anything is an email, i cant be arsed with small chat, i dont want to get personal with whom im buying from, so the small chat cn be done quicker and more importantly more conveniantly to ME, this way, if you dont answer me, then you lose the sale, like Nick says maybe there is no recession in Derby ?
We use text daily at work, and out of the customer bookins we take and we have to report the success rate of text sent versus bookings then it something like 95%, where as the phone call alone struggles at 50%, so the text is more conveniant for the majority, maybe just not the few

fook me i feel like ginge after all that !

My work phone comes up as unknown to any outside line. Today I advertised my car on piston heads (well at 1am last night). I received about 20 peoples e-mails, 3 people started off with texts just saying, is it for sale. Loads of people called, some people asked me to call them (their request came in via text or e-mail) as soon as it was convenient, appreciating that it was a working day and working hours. Everyone I spoke to on the phone bar one, wanted the car and wasn't wasting my time with price. One lad was about to book his flight for tomorrow when another guy called and he said he was going to drive up right now for it. He drove up for 3 hours and picked it up on the spot. SO - it would seem that the initial texter people were time wasters, 25% of the e-mailers were time wasters. Everyone who called wanted to buy the car. I set a fixed price and told them all that there were multiple people wanting the car for that price and the first one who arrived with the money owned the car. Less than 18 hours after advertising it, someone had drive 200miles, bought it and left.

Interesting experiment. I always answer 'unknown number' but just say 'hi' and leave them to the rest.

Texting is an acceptable starter, but it needs to swiftly move on to a phone call or it is a waste of time.

Cheers

RW

100% exactly how i feel

Texting is for girls , and most of them do it while there driving and think we dont know but the swirving all over the road and the fact that there looking down towrds there muff usuall gives it away

Having said that most girls swirv all over the road anyway

Its not a man thing its more an age thing, i hate mobile phones full stop did 50 years without them so dont need them. I have one in my car for emergencies & recently topped it up so Ł20 lasted me about 8 years i guess. As for texts never send them or read them if people cant phone, tough shite in my book. I did once send a text to see if i could, it said simply ' LO ' never answered the reply .

Sometimes its easier to send a text, half the time by the time I've 'typed' the text out (and I'm by no means slow at it) I could've phoned quicker, you can spend too much time tapping out texts,

The WORST is 'did you get my text' if you've not replied within milliseconds of receiving the first one

I'd stand on the roof doing semaphore if it meant there was the possibility of making some more money.

No, I don't normally call my doctor to book an appointment anyway. I can text/email/call their receptionist though.

Phones are a cunt IMO.

Having this stupid little thing in your pocket/on the desk ringing at you is like someone standing next to you and shouting "OI, I WANT TO TALK TO YOU. NOW. STOP EVERYTHING YOU'RE DOING AND TALK TO ME ME ME."
