Default Had a new windscreen fitted (possible leak)

By autoglass last week and I know have water in the driver footwell. Is it possible for water to get into the footwell if the windscreen on a Ka was not fitted properly?

I have looked but i just cant work out where the water is coming from

There is EVERY reason for a leak - ESPECIALLY if it's bonded. All you need is one tiny gap in the glue, or a section where the glue hasn't taken and you'll soon enough have a swimming pool in the footwell!

As for the KA, to be honest, I haven't ever seen a KA leaking into the footwell from the screen without seeing the water physically come in. It can only come in from the top or side (water cannot run down the outside of the glass, then up the inside, through a gap in the glue before then running down the inside of the bulkhead - basic physics) so best thing to do is water test it with a hose. Get a mate inside the car, and then blast the screen along the top and sides with a hose for a few mins and get your mate to feel around the edges inside to see if water is coming in.

If it's not coming from the screen, then it'll most likely be either your heater matrix, or the drain holes below the scuttle are blocked and water is backing up till it finds an exit - like a sink.

If it is the screen, get onto the company that fitted it and get it re-done - should be covered under warrenty

Water can leak in through the bottom, had it happen on my old work van after it had a new screen. Only noticed it when on the move as the wind forces it up the screen.

IF it wasnt before they fitted it and now it is then chances are its that mate, as thrush said they can leak when new ones are bonded in!!

My last cossie about 3yrs ago had a new screen fitted, went out 1 day and it was raining and there was water dripping in from the top left corner of the screen!!!
The gf was in the passenger seat and not too impressed

Came back out a few days later and rebonded it and was fine after that!!Ź

Try the pollen filter on the passenger side mate, they get soaked then cause the footwell to get wet.

When i bought my mondeo it used to drip above the rear view mirror. It got a big crack in it from a stone so i had to get it changed and when the guy cut the old one out there was a gap where there was no sealer.

Never had a problem since new one was fitted

Auto Glass have just rang me back and said that it is possible that the new screen has caused the leak so its going back in tomorrow morning from them to take it out and bond it back in again. They where very good about it TBH, I said I wasnt 100% sure it was the windscreen that caused the leak but the bloke on the phone said better to be safe than sorry and he booked it straight in

Sounds like it could be the screen to me, but check the pollen filter while they've got the screen out (they'll have to have the scuttle plastic off anyway) as they could have disturbed it, and that'll leak straight in to your passenger footwell. More than likely a gap in the bonding stuff tho

Cool, would the pollen filter cause a leak into the driver footwell? The passenger side is dry.

Being a fitter for the past 6 years, I can tell you I've NEVER seen it, and it defies the laws of physics.... Water cannot travel down the outside of a screen, then curve round and travel up the inside, finding a TINY gap, then curve round again and travel down the inside of the bulkhead, finding another gap to enter into the vehicle cabin;

The bloke that I spoke to said was possible, but then the water might not becoming from the bottom of the screen. Could have come in through the side and run down the pilar?

Same as I said in my first post - water will be coming from the top, or the side. The pollen filter is highly likely to allow water to seep into the vehicle, but on the KA, that'd mean the under scuttle drainage holes to be blocked allowing water to build and rise till it's high enough to come in through the pollen filter.

It's probably going to be a tiny patch of glue that didn't take to the screen/body, or a tiny join gap in the glue that's allowing water to seep in, probably run down the a-post and collect in the footwell.
