Seen someone die today
Whilst at work I got stuck along Old Durham road. A man was lying on his back in a bus stop receiving CPR. The ambulance crew eventually gave up and he rolled his rubber glove back to look at his watch, which obviously thats it, times up.
Bloke only looked in his 50's. It really shook me up as I have never seen nothing like that before.....
RIP anyway whoever you were...........

It's not nice, an old woman had a stroke right in front of me on Sat. My mate had to sit with her untill the ambulance turned up, didn't really know what to do just put a damp cold cloth on her head while rubbing her back.
It'll play on your mind for a couple of days mate but there's nothing you could have done.

Old fella dropped down over the road to our house a couple weeks back. People were already gathered round him when I noticed, he was totally grey and they were trying to check his breathing etc then the ambulance turned up (theres a station at the end of the street) and the paramedics worked on him for a good 20 mins or so then covered him up and put him in the back.
He used to walk down for the paper every day having to stop every 100 yards or so to catch his breath. Recently it was taking him longer and longer until he took his final breath. It will play on your mind for a few days fella, not a nice thing to see. RIP

In a nutshell mate.
I've seen the worst of the worst(dead babies, murders) in my job,and still sleep easy at night.
Some of my mates wouldn't be able to handle it,and wonder how I do,but its defo a case of more you see,the less it affects.
How sad!But if it was one of my family,I'd prob fold like a pack of cards.

Not nice.
The way I deal is to remember that they are not mine and detach.Hope she can get her head round it,as now qualified, she is an asset to a very special profession.Takes a special person to take up the role she has and would be a shame if she left.Tell her she is needed for the families and any work she's done so far has been appreciated by many.
If its too much, tell her she's already made a difference and good luck in the future.

my brother in law in an air ambulance paramedic, he see the big ones as "juicy jobs" and to him it's his job to do his best nothing more, It does still get to him tho, only last week he had to attened a car crash near leeds with one child dead and one with both legs amputated at the scene the stepdad father driving "stunk of drink" so he told me..
he deals with it all by doing his best then getting on with life..

Too many posts.. I need a life!!
When I was 19 I had to go with my mum to id my Dads body at one of the local hospitals, as he had a heart attack and died while at work. I can still remember what he looked like if I think about it even now over 10 yrs on.

My Dad passed on his birthday on 28 dec last year, i was sleeping in the chair downstairs at mums and she called me shouting down the stairs "think dads dead" as you can imagine i ran up the stairs to find my dad on his knees leaning against the bath, i called an ambulance, and the lady on the phone said to lay him down and do cpr telling me what to do, which was very hard for me, when paramedics turned up they tried to revive him for 1 and a half hours but never managed it, that has been the worst day of my life.
