just the usual, check the spring mountings on the rear as they can go,, check the arches on the back especially where the sills meet arches.

Any receipts of a full engine rebuild? As anything over 80k is gonna be an oil burner. Looks a good tidy car from the photos.

the engine was rebuilt at 98,000, running aprox 270bhp, the only downside is he has only had it a few months.

Ok well if the receipts are there to prove the works then it should be ok,
When i went to buy my 3dr it had 154k on the clock,
It had a recent rebuilt gearbox + clutch, and an engine rebuild with 30k miles on it.
Just factor in prices for replacement parts that could still be original.
It seems a very good price. Are the wings original etc?
Does he seem genuine as to why hes selling it?

Looks like a nice 3 door mate, with these cars now i dont think the miles count as there 23 years old now, Look around the strut tops for rust. Around the header tank is the norm, Pull the boot carpet up and look on the passenger side above where the exhaust would be for rust too. Bottom off both doors and the tailgate, also lift the tailgate and move the rubber boot seal (above the rear plate) they rust there too

Good luck hope it turns out to be a nice one

i have had a nightmare of a day, it took me 3 1/2 hours travelling to see the car and i was there no more than 2 minutes, the paint work had all been resprayed and not that good but i thought lets have a look, i lifted the bonnet and some not so good repairs, i lifted the boot rubber and not good news there either, then on the way back my car burst a brake pipe, had an heated discussion with the RAC on the phone, and now iv got to go back to oxford to repair and collect my car tomorrow.

someone will buy it but it wont be my £6500 that does, maybe im expecting to much.

Abit of paint might not be a bad thing, you got to remember there 23 years old now and the odd bit of rust will be here and there mate. try and up your budget a little , 8/9k

this had pit and filler marks all round, filler on the slam panel, when i lifted the boot rubber the metal come with it, the strut tops had been repaired with plates badly, inner wing was rusty, oil over engine, i knew it was cheap and was expecting a bit of paint ect but i would of hoped for a bit more as it looked lovely in the pictures.

someone else might look as it as a project but not for me.
