would it be safe to trim my alternator pulley blades down? fiesta rst!
hi guys, just fitted a new radiator to my fiesta rs turbo! just been thinking my alternator in the past has cut through my bottom radiator hose. the reason why the alternator sits this close is becuase i have my oil return welded into the sump for the T2 turbo.
would be ok just to trim my blades down around 1cm so it doesnt destroy my hose??

Your other alternators will have some sort of cooling fan but it might be inside the casing. Big manufacturers aren't in the habit of making things bigger than they need to unless it makes the manufacturing process cheaper - if they can save half a penny on materials on each alternator they will. You also need to consider that the assembly will be balanced (OK quite roughly compared to things like engine internals). Can you balance it again after chopping lumps off?
Personally I'd look at making a shield of some sort to protect the hose. Lump of metal, a bit of tin bashing and a bolt should see you right.

mine was very close on my escort after moving the rad back, I put a few wide jubille clips around the hose where it would strike if something gave, this way if it does happen to come in contact for whatever reason, first of all you'll hear it and 2nd you can sort it out and if need be put some new jubilees around. Clips are a lot cheaper than hoses.
