Default Can I use a cometic head gasket?

Have to change the head gasket on my saff cossie. Can I use a cometic head gasket without getting the block skimmed or will I have to use a group a gasket? I know aot of the jap boys use them without skimming the block and get away with it.

Also aswell as the usual pressure test and skim of the head, is there anything else worth doing while the head is off?

You should be ok, you need to check the block and head for flatness.

You can use a metal rule for a quick check, but you will need to clean up both faces.

Don't bother unless you have your block and head decked/skimmed perfectly flat, or it will leak. A std small turbo Escort head gasket is half the price of a "Group A" (which is a std 4x4 gasket!) and better. I would use a small turbo gasket unless you are over 400 Bhp

Metal head gaskets are a nightmare unless you get the head & block skimmed. Just stick with a grp A
