Default Pre brunters tuna war chat ;)

Right brunters is topspeed off a bend in 1.5 odd miles ish.

So what variables would determine your topspeed - feel free to add/slag my ideas

- Speed/line off the bend
- Wind speed direction and force
- Air temp
- Car resisitance - Body shape aerodynamics, ride height, tyre width/type, mods such as undertray, mirrors, spoilers removed
- Car weight given short length
- Gear selection time - driver and mechanical limits
- Surface conditions wet/dry
- Braking point - driver and mechanical limits
- Power curve/gearing combination to acheive speed
- Number of attempts to fine tune driver/gearing through tyre sizes
- Mechanical condition of car, Clutch 100% misfires etc on day

.....and right at the end

- Maximum BHP of engine!

So once everyone has had their fun (and it is ) Please think through some of the factors of what made that speed before the following arguements errupt on here
- Tuna X is gay cos they only did xxxmph
- Tuna X is better than tuna Y cos tuna Y did 0.001 mph more
- Tuna X deffo does not have xxxbhp cos they only managed xxxmph!!!

etc etc etc

Hope eveyone has fun

In Order of importance.
1. Dont gear your car to reach a speed you have no chance of pulling
ie. No point in gearing a 500bhp car to pull 190 cos it wont do it.

2. Tailor your gearing to suit your Power Graph
ie. No point in gearing for 8k revs if you are 150bhp down by then.

3. Have massive Torque to acclerate you up to max speed quickly.
ie. to pull 200 at Brunters requires 0-200 time to be sub 30secs,

4. Have sufficient Bhp to pull the target speed.

The corner makes no difference to Topspeed many do a Standing Start.( Mike R & Rocket Ronnie)
Most f**k up the corner & scrub of all their speed.

My car has set new record figures on its first run on each occation its tried.
ie. 183.3 (then rwd record) 199.8 (overall record bettered on second run) so i know the facts given are what should be aimed at.

Quality! I would have had mine by now as well if I hadn't have let Tony/Martin use some bits of mine for Oli's! They sound worth the wait though...

So what sort of power curve is good for topspeed? aim for peak power at peak speed in final gear?
Not done the quick excel sheet to see what happens to torque over RPM for different trends of BHP.

I see what rod says about lots of torque as well for brunters as its so small but the norris evo was turbo only - surely its lowdown torque wasnt too high and he just held it in the high revs/hp band - so high torque at high revs is as wanted?

What this thread was to point out was its too easy for people to slate other peoples work as not being xxx claimed HP cos it doesnt reach xxxmph at brunters and that there is probably a lot more to it than just that.

dingy - no pics of my pride and joy - they dont exist as it aint finished - just playing with different ideas to the conventional as its fun I'm sure some dodgy ned will leak them at some point anyway - people are always caught with camera phones around it
