Default Best batteries for cars?

I nee to buy a new battery for the E39, size 019 (355Lx190Hx175W) as the BMW battery in the boot is loosing charge after an hour after enjoying a full overnight deep charge when not connected to the car and when connected dropping charge in 30 mins (all usual tests done) so I presume that one of the cells has died and the others are being drained in order to attempt to maintain the charge.

Anyway, Halfords quote £72.99 with the tradecard for one of their 3 years warranty jobbies, but I'm sure there are better batteries for the same/less out there?

Throw some ideas this way people

Bosch are as good as/probably better than Varta ime.

I've found it's ALWAYS the bmws that drain batteries anyway mate! 3, 5 and 7 series seem to sit here with us for a few days and go dead.

I reckon there's a ghost draining them.....

But the auto electrician said the alarms drain a fair bit compared to other cars so if they sit not being used they're a bugger. I'm not sure how true this is though!

Also, because of the key fobs it's quite easy to open the boot without realising and obviously the boot light stays on.

Have you checked the car to see if anythings draining the battery?

Paddy old sex fruit, everything has been checked and double checked - the good thing about the E39 is that after 15 mins the car goes into "shutdown" mode and turns everything off bar the alarm system, so any lights left on (bar parking lights) are turned off by the computer system to stop the battery drain.

it is just a knackered battery - trust me, the yellow light on top that says "i'm fucked" has lit up

Is it wrong that I'm now nursing a semi?

Try Euro Car Parts for a Bosch battery mate [or Varta if you insist!], £71 sound fooooookin dear to me!

The cheapest place for batteries for us SOMETIMES is the local Vauxhall dealership! and they are Bosch too. No point getting a cheap one especially on that car.

I have a Bosch silver and never had a problem with it

Seems to handle everything, including quite a lot of electronics, very well

I seem to remember when I was looking around for batteries, it was mentioned that the Bosch silvers are re-badged Varta's?

Varta blue, just be careful, if your car is meant to have a CALCIUM as this is the ONLY sort that you can fit.
019 varta blue is around £90, bosch basic will be about 1/2 the price, but you get what you pay for.
Carbatteryshop.co.uk are good.
