Thoughts?

the environmental reasons is the whole "lets convince stupid people were doing ti for the right reasons by quoting fuel consumption and carbon emmissions while quietly ignoring the cost of scrapping and making cars."

Its just a ruse to try and prevent the car manufacturers failing as everyone has a finger in each others pies.

he earns shitloads and has a cast iron garantee'd pension worth lots as well

why should he give a shit about the guy who has to live of £20 a week dole money when he can worry about how many houses he can buy?

eerily like tony b liar, setting himself up before the fall, he's a bit like the naughty schoolboy who's taken charge of the school while the headmaster is away with a forged letter who thinks, just because he's got the position, he's earnt the right to tell us what to do

if there isn't a way to change the law so that this can't happen again, there bloody well should be, if an elected official leaves they always have an ellection to see who peole want to replace them

anyway, what did dr eyebrows have to say about other stuff then?

I swore Id never buy a new car due to depreciation

I swore Id never take a loan for a car due to the interest.

Ive been offered an extension on my mortgage, car manufacturers are selling cars for fuck all and the goverment is offering 2k on a trade in....

Makes sense tbh :P

I'm sure it takes more energy to create a new car than it does to keep an old one running. Ford USA had this scheme a while ago and it was massively criticised.

I have a major problem with electric cars too. We burn coal to make electricity then transport the electricity to a house where it is transferred to your car battery. Surely it is more efficient to just run a petrol car? Or get a fucking bike! An electric car is a shit car. It'll run out away from your house and people will park outside your house so you can't reach your charging station etc etc.

Agreed, keeping an older car running is more environemntally friending than keep making new ones every few years!

Didnt it work out to a new car having to do something like 100k miles before it becomes more enviromentally friendly to run than an older one?!

Transporting electricity to a house is no less efficient than transporting petrol to a petrol station I would wager.

The key thing is though, not to use coal in the first place, use a green energy source, or better still nuclear and just manage the waste properly.

The exact numbers involved depend on the car, I suspect with modern cars that 100K is in fact a far higher number!

exactly. why can't i use it to get cashback against a motorbike? total bullshit in terms of environment, but will hopeful kick start car sales again for the sake of all those employed in the industry in this country which may have a knock on effect in other areas of the economy if those people see a secure future

ASS!!! I'd leave this country as the income tax is horrific...

however I just love paying for mansions and schooling and healthcare and plasma Tvs for jobless immigrants with 9 kids...

It makes me feel all warm inside

I also love paying for politicians to have 2 houses and their husbands porn...

on the scrappage thing though, i have a more than 10 year old car that is worth basically nothing to sell - is that likely to change if it could be bought and used for trade in?

Agreed. Nuclear power is fantastic.

And fair point about transporting the petrol.

yes it does, old cars are more friendly in terms of lifetime cost from this moment. Unfortunately the governement are trying to sell cars, not save the environment.

Burning coal is far from ideal, but MUCH more efficient than burning petrol in a car.

Transporting electricity involves less losses than putting petrol in trucks

electric cars are fine, but current technology only allows them to be second cars or shopping cars for city running, not much good for a 400 mile trip when they need charged in the middle.

IMO it will onyl work when they standardise the batteries and make them easy to change so you pull into motorway services and just change battery as opposed to charging :P
