Default ERST S2 Piper cam or standard

On my friends escort we recently rebuilt what do all you think it better as some people say use standard cam as the piper one doesnt make alot of difference, it just makes it lumpy?

Standard cam or piper 285?

Car has pro alloy front mount intercooler and ported burton head and is running just over a bar or boost.

Yeah he has a vernier pulley also. We just used standard pulley to get it running again and timing all lined up. Before we took it apart running the cam and GRS intercooler it was 190 bhp i think. I think he wants around 200 mark.

We will run it in on the standard cam then change it over to the piper one with pulley and get it set up.

What boost can it run or would it be best kept to just over a bar?

Personally I wouldn't touch a Piper 285T2 cam with a bargepole. They seem to sacrifice so much just for a small peak gain in bhp. Kent CVH35 or Newman would be my choice (leaning more towards the Newman these days) every time

see i wouldn't go for kent cams, i think it's all a bit horse's for course's, but yeah i've heard a lot of people raving about newman cams at the mo, but can't comment as i've never used them, always used piper

see im looking at getting a cam, originally i wanted a piper but after a bit of research i think im going to a kent cam, purely because they seem to have a lot more applications to suit everyones needs.alot of ppl and magazines have said to use newman cams including jamsport but i know kent and piper have been around for ages so id choose either one.i myself am going for the kent cvh34.check out burton power theyve got loads of cams online
cheers

Newman, the piper looks good on paper but makes it drive like shit. The car will end up gutless until around 4000rpm. Combined with the fact the 285T2 is made from used toilet paper and lasts around 20 minutes makes it the one to aviod.

IMO for drivability and a reasonable power gain, Kent CVH34, Piper 285T (NOT 285T2), or a mild Newmans.
Standard Ford is a good all round cam though!
All a bit of a lottery as to how long the hydraulic setups will last if at all!
Newmans is a safe bet as they make their Cams/Lifters out of good material, but then you have the ball ache of setting up and running in solid lifters.
