my question is, where is your source to prove the above statement

Why did ford stop making Cosworths
Personaly I do not know without research.
So, after a quick google I found this
http://www.wrc-cosworth.org/dv/history/history.html

to quote from this page
The new Escort RS Cosworth was produced until early in 1996 when EU put a new set of noise regulations for cars to work, and the Escort Cosworth couldn't pass those without modifications. For some reason Ford then decided to stop the production instead of changing the car so it would be within the new noise regulations. And that was the end to the Escort RS Cosworth. The last car rolled out of the factory on the 12th of January 1996. Then 7.145 Escort Cosworths had been produced
if you think this is why ford stopped making cosworths then you belive that

but just to give you another example toyota no longer makes any performance cars in their range, why is this simple because their is ever no market for them or someone is making them type of cars cheaper and better etc, the was the case for the cossie

for under 10k there are loads out their, rx7, 300zx (well cheap, but a pig to work on), supra tt, skyline r33/r34, evo's etc just to name a few, cossies aren't what you should be looking at if you what to go fast! unless you have very deep pockets
What you on about deep pockets???

they dont cost that much to tune , you just need someone who knows what there doing under the bonnett and not some crap back street garage !!

Sapphire Cosworth 2wd
0-60 5.8
0-100 15.8

Autocar test of an E36 325i 29/4/92
0-60 7.2
0-100 19.2

I said earlier on that newer cars had more sophisticated suspension systems and more mechanical grip from wider tyres...............but in terms of straight line performance a Sapphire 2wd accelerates faster than an E36 325i ......

I think we've all got 'mates' whose standard Saxo VTS does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds though.......

That's why I prefer official TIMED road tests rather than pub talk

So you think the Jap cars are cheap to maintain and modify?

An R33/34 Skyline or an RX7 has astronomical running costs compared to a Cosworth! Are you wired up right?

Infact every car you have listed there would cost more to run than any Cosworth ever made, except the Evo.

And another point you made in the quote I was referring to was that a 325 would see off a standard Cossie? Well that's it established then: you're talking complete mince.

can you quote your source for your above statement?

why has Ford released a new Focus RS when you can buy a better perfoming car cheaper then?

So getting back to the original point here...basically in your opinion a Sapphire Cosworth is not a fast car in standard form, although in almost everyone else's opinion in this thread(on a performance car enthusiast's site, never mind the rest of the population) it is.

cool, but it wouldn't be impossible for 325 win, again if driven well, also i have no dout that the sapph will feel quicker (or less slow lol) than the 325, but feeling quicker and being quicker are 2 different things

Another cock..... It's ok school holidays are over soon, your mum will be putting you to bed and taking your playstation off you ...

Obviously we will ignore the fact that you are just here to cause trouble, the Cosworth was the KING of the 80's and 90's, it is simple as that. And I don't care if an Evo 4 is 0.0005 of a second quicker up the strip, or costs Ł2.58 less to tune to 400BHP, I have an Escort Cosworth which will ALWAYS be a legend, where will an Evo 4 be in 10 years time??? Probably on the shelves of Tesco's with pedigree chum in it!

Go away, you are boring!

I'm sure if the mag testers of the time could have coaxed the 325i to go quicker then they would have.
I've seen them put a 911 Turbo through the paces at Millbrook and I'd say they are fairly handy in getting the best out the cars,.....certainly better than I am or the majority of people bringing their road cars to Santa Pod.
They don't have to pay for them if they break them either

You are sooooooo wrong it is funny, , when the 3 door/ sapphire were new there was NOTHING on the road this side of a Lotus Carlton or mega money super car that could touch them. And that was before a simple stage 1 or 3 conversion took them upto 270BHP and 320BHP respectivley for under Ł500 ... And is why the YB engine is STILL a huge force in motorsport today....

No idea what I'm on about?

Let me make this as clear as I can for you...

2WD Sapphire Cosworth does 0-60 in Circa 6 seconds.

BMW 325 Coupe does 0-60 in circa 7 seconds.

Both handle well.

From that information, which car do you believe will win in a race?

How about taking your head out of your arse, and reading what you write? You are comparing a 1986 4 cylinder motor to a late 90's 5.7 v8 .....

In that case, I would say a Rolls Royce RB199 is a FAR better engine than a crappy ls1/2 ....

No-one is saying that chap - we're well aware of the Cossie failings/limitations.

If you look back, we were trying to point out that most people ( even car enthusiasts unless you come from a Veyron owners' site ) would regard a car that does 60 from rest in 5.8ish seconds as 'fast'.....even by today's standards.
Obviously cars such as 911 Turbos, Gt2s, Veyron, GT-r that do it in under 4 are 'extremely fast' ..............but not many people on here see those everyday

No, lets refer to your original statement that the YB is a worse engine than a LS1/2 . YOU are the one making yourself look like an idiot by making stupid statements that bear no resemblance to the real world. You are comparing 15/20 year old cars to modern performance cars.... How about learning some facts, realizing that time and technology move on, and for it's time the Cosworth (in all 6 models) was a true family man supercar!...

It is like trying to compare Rocky Marciano to Mike Tyson!

A 325i compact beat a cozzy i dont think so. YES ok i have drove bmws and fords, and i like the drive of a bmw more. Yes the bmw will be nippy but beat a cozzy i dont think so.
FACTS
COZZY- TURBO, 4x4, NO CATS ON EARLY TYPES. MOST HAVE BEEN TUNED UP
BMW- DRIVES NICE, 2.5 engine but CATS,LOADS OF RESTRICTIONS ON THEM.OH AND A COMPACT IT A COUPE THAT HAS LOST ITS REAR END AND THE OWNER CANT AFFORD TO PUT IT BACK ON
AFTER 35 YEARS IN THE MOTER TRADE CANT WAIT TO TELL MY BOSS TMW.

How about learning some facts, realizing that time and technology move on, and for it's time the Cosworth (in all 6 models) was a true family man supercar!...

It is like trying to compare Rocky Marciano to Mike Tyson!
yes i am well aware that time and technology move on, thank you for pointing this out, also if you read one of my earlier posts it clearly stats that it was a quick car back in the day (never fast), it's slow by todays standards for what it's meant to be fact!, so your saying people don't have ls1/2 in their cars in the so called real world

You are missing the point again..... even a T3 turbo stage 3 cossie will give 95% of stuff a run for it's money... How many cars come fitted with an LS1/2 as standard, oh that will be a Corvette or a monaro ..

I give up, and award you retard of the month

Should learn really not to argue with idiots ... But there you go, you are entitled to your opinion, even if it is totally incorrect
