Dare I say a rover?? They're dead cheap and most of the K-series engines have had the modified HG fitted by now!
I picked up a 52 plate MG ZS for just shy of £1300 and its been blob on. OK on fuel and dead reliable since i've had it

Me n are lass have just bought a Renault Megane Coupe 1.6 16v. T reg 55k with FSH the car is spotless inside and out Its nippy and does 40mpg+ and we only use it for work n nipping to the shops etc no motorway use so good on petrol. we paid £1400 for it but there are loads cheaper with higher miles. I'm not a fan of French cars but i cant fault it really.

As a cheap run around id deff recomend one.

Just bought myself an Escort 1.8TD on a V plate - £250, ex police car so well maintained, starts on the button and so far this week has saved me £45 over the fuel I would of poured into the 540i

Diesel engine = run on chip oil = £20 to fill the tank at 50p a litre
