Your being pushed not pulled for a start , the whole feel of the car is different ,i like RWD more than fwd ,they can handle the same if not better than fwd is your using the power properly .

I think it will sell well to be honest and its not the best looking car out there but i think its what we need to get people back into the ford scene.I do like them but if it was my money i would still rather have an escort cossie.

That'll be why BMW drivers don't use their indicators, they're too busy fighting with the steering wheel.

I agree, you can never compare something that is built to drive well to something that you drive well.

The RS badge was all about a car which was all about driving not being driven and the new focus from what I have read is all technology taking control of you.
Take the cosworth for instance, you have to have tallent to handle one and the focus is supposed to be so easy to drive that I reckon it would take all of the fun away from driving it.

mmmmmm

I dont see anyone here saying its a crap handling car - sure it probably handles very well for a fwd car, BUT the big beef is the whole thing has been done as a budget exercise too far rather than a pure drivers car.

And ultimately its failed as its too expensive for its equivilent FWD rivals yet the performance doesnt match up to the next rung of the ladder which is the 4wd cars such as evos/subarus.

I agree ford lost the plot to the bean counters when they got rid of the escort cosworth. the top level RS's were always about that motorsport heritage and spirit of the rally and race cars put back into a road car to give an exhilerating drive experience.

If they did that with the focus rs then it would be 4wd....... same with the mk1 focus rs. Its a shame ford wont try and compete in that kind of market as i reckon if ford had a good 4wd RS on the same rung of the ladder as evos and subarus then they could quite easily give them a run for thier money - thats if the damage hasnt already been done.... but id expect a different face would provide competition for the evo/subaru which doesnt exist at present. plus ford still has a rally pedigree something which mitsubishi nor subaru can claim to have with thier recent years problems competing in WRC and the fact they arent even in the WRC anymore

the evo is about 3-4k more? and i bet the new FRS could live with it quite easily certainly seemed that way from when they tested it vs the evo 10

Jay (Above) has hit the nail on the head ......

If the RS hasnt got 500bhp 4 wd it MUST be crap *(even though no one has driven one!)

This is a modern car , with modern diffs , modern engine.. Each to their own BUT SOME RS fans are stuck in the past.

In the current financial climate im really suprised the RS brand hasn't been scrapped altogether !!

People who say that this FocusRS is shit and say how they prefer the Escort Cosworth are just people attached to the past. If you see the Escort RS2000 back in the 90's was it worth the RS badge? I say not! it only had 150 bhp on it but lot's of people loved and you have to respect that. in my opinion the Focus RS are to compare to the RS2000 not the Cosworth. The Cosworth are just what they where and FORD never realized what people wanted. I say That I want something that could beat the EVO and the WRX but I don't know if that day will ever come. Having sad all that I still like the NEW Focus RS and let's see what is this revo knukle technology before we start shooting at it and then we can comment more!!!.

I don't think it will be a crap car at all, I do however feel that to compete against the big boys (Japan) it would of been better to build it with 4wd so that should the tuners want to get their hands dirty and make it something seriously competative it would be a more capable handling car.

Lets not forget the escort cosworth was a serious force to be reckoned with (even in standard trim) back in the day but since then ford have not had a serious contender for an ultimate driving tool.

You have to be honest that most of us would of loved for ford to of taken notice of its public this time round and built it with 4wd.

YES! after the budget, you should get Ł2000 off a new car if you trade in any car over 9 years old. its to get the car market running again. Germany introduced it and new car sales have gone up by 40% !!!

Are you on crack? Rear wheel drive is the cornerstone of the true performance car ... Clowns who can't drive always say RWD is crap ...

Sorry, no matter how many trick bits are on the new FRS, or the old one, they are still boring to drive as you can't drive them sideways on the power .... RS stands for Rallye Sport, not Really Shopping ..

FWD should be banned, the roads would be empty in weeks

Oh and sensible priced rear wheel drive...

Mazda Rx8, Mx 5
Most Mercs
Porsche boxsters, caymens, 911's
Ford mustangs
Lotus elise/exige
Jaguar xk's
95% of most kit cars are rear wheel drive
MGF/Tf
Nissan 350/370z....
Toyota MR2.....
Vauxhall vx 220/ monaro V8
And plenty more if you look.

So basically you are talking shit, anything remotley interesting is rear drive!!! Unless it is 4x4. FWD is just boooooooooooring!

Why does it need to be 4wd on the road? Things have moved on since ford were building Sapphire Cosworths - FWD cars have beaten WRC cars on tarmac rallies etc.

I think the main problem is people are so set in their ways and aren't willing to give something a try.

You can't drive sideways on the road though, not properly.

Think Bodge22 was talking about normal cars as well, most of those cars cost alot more than a hot hatch which is what the focus is.

Rear wheel drive on the track, well BMW's have had their arses kicked in BTCC for the last few years and WTCC as well, front wheel drive technology has definetly caught up.

Not arguing about track driving though because virtually no RS owner ever takes their RS to trackdays, they just do parade laps at shows and that's it.

Went to Swindon and Bristol show last year at Castle Combe, tonnes of MK1 Focus RS on the parade lap, then when the track opened for proper sessions they just stayed in the car park!

It doesnt just handle well for a front drive car it knock's the STI in to a cocked hat in that department aswell....and is in a league above the R26R which is over 20k anyway!

The performance is awesome for 25k!

I have to agree it is a shame its not 4wd, but shouldnt we be happy that they acutally made something better than a 2 litre Zetec with 140bhp?
did i say i was comparing it to a new focus rs? no

i was giving an example to that guy about difference between front and rear wheel drive not the new rs, how the hell can a capri be compared to a new rs?

please read what i was replying to before thinking, i was in no way commenting on how those compared to a 2009 car, i was speaking about the DIFFERENCE between FWD & RWD.

It does look like an ST lol but you have to remmber that 99% of these cars will never see a track or full on driveing there going going to work and back or to the shops.
yer thats not what some people whant but the people that do whant to track them and go extreem and 4wd and stuff will do it them selves no need for ford to go to the effet when thay dont need to for the largest customer which will be 30-43 year olds which will buy one for going to work in.

so yer the hard core modder will not like it as mutch right out the box but ford does not need to plese you just the other 99% of people that will buy them

still like MK1 FRS better

What a sad day it would be if you went to an rs show and all it was, was cosworths

Whos gonna like this car if not even you supposed ford fans dont? I always knew this was a bitchy forum, didnt know it'd be as bad as to be bitchy about the cars were supposed to be passionate about

I personally think the car looks great and im more than confident that Ford have spent enought time and effort making the car a great driving experience.

So what if its not got 4wd? Do you need it? Really? Lets give the car a chance first before you all shoot it down

Given the choice between a ropey old taxi or 3dr sierra or the new RS, I know what I would choose to own. The Escort Cossie is the last decent mass produced cossie out there and even thats not as special as it was. Imagine pulling into anywhere half decent in a ropey late 1980's taxi, Im sure the women would fall at your feet to get in it- Well problem fall at your feet due to fumes as the sapph is overfueling

Lads that have bought a new RS. Enjoy it, you can be using your cars whenever you want, the old jealous sapph owners will be talking about how good their car is on the internet.

Dont get why people are slating it tbh. None of you have driven it so you cant comment. I love RWD but i would never diss a FWD car as they can be awesome to. Just sometimes think you get the who brovado (sp) with rwd thing making you feel hard

Spot on! I for one thing am glad that the RS brand is being kept alive, be it FWD, RWD, 4WD or any fucking wheel drive.

I havent driven one, and in all honesty probably wont get chance so im in no position to say "its shit" blah blah blah like all of the wanna be motoring journalists on this thread.
