shall we get the mirrors out after a stage for the bufties to have a look underneath at the gravel and stone rash, with wet mud dripping all over?

hmmm i dont think so.
so you never have your bonnet up at rallys ???

andy always has his up and there is always hundreds of people looking under the engine bay and id say 95% of them people would expect an engine bay to match the rest of the car

This site pisses me of when you get clever cunts jumping in, "some real fucking idiots on this site" " what is idiotic about having a view? comments like that make some sound like ignorant people, on this thread everybody knows it is going in a race car/demo car, do you think it would be good for the company etc if the engine looked half tidy because as jim said he pops the bonnet at shows and track days etc etc and people look and talk, remember we are not talking about much time or money here in the grand scheme of things, a bit of braided line here and bit there maybe some silicone hoses etc some components that dont look like they have been sat in salt water for months at a time...

Out of interest - surely a little strip down, clean up the welds, polish a few bits and a wee bit powder coating and it would look good enough for all the people that think it looks rough?

Wouldn't take too much effort and would satisfying the passionford bunch. That in itself must make it worth while...

lol

It does look a bit of a carbuncle i admit but looks aren't everything and i think a lot of people will struggle to understand that.
This is a new build tho , despite that the inlet was the one used on Dermot Carnegies rallycross Escort and then focus , it was developed over many years and has ,in the past , produced 840bhp - or at least flowed that , this is before the restrictor laws became enforced in rallycross .
Race and Rally car parts can appear a bit over engineered and ugly , this suffers from that ,you can rest assured that whatever parts are fitted have been tried, tested ,developed and found to work tho ,these may not have the bling factor that the mag readers look for !
Julians results with Dermot speak for themselves tho , please check out his webiste for Championship titles won .
I supplied the Inconnel exhaust manifold, RS 200 wastegate and the turbo so i know what theyre worth and what they can achieve.
I also know what these engines cost to build , sorry if thats shocked people but thats about the cost from a blank piece of paper to a dyno proven unit like this ,development costs money and its how engine builders get their costs back .
Its also a cautionary tale that i guess Andy didn't pay anywhere near half its build cost too , did you buy the Gearbox too Andy ?

I couldn't give a fuck how it looks, i was just shocked on how much money people spend on Cosworth engines!
Surly 45 large would get you a better engine than a cosworth one?

How many of those 95% though are potential customers though ? not many.

I'm quite sure when installed the engine will look great, its not brand new so you can't expect it to look it, are we going to start complaining that the compressor housing looks a bit oxidised and some nuts and bolts are rusty ? its seriously not going to affect its performance so its the last thing I'd be worried about.

The bottom line is that if that engine was freshly built the inlet would still look a bit naff (in a few peoples opinion) the rest would look new, (not 45k new in some peoples opinion) but does all that matter ? once installed and quipped its going to look fine yet used.

Maybe we just start a thread on show us your race car engine bays so we can hammer them for not complying with the passion ford concourse team

Not when the race formula/Category is a 2,000cc turbo charged format that requires upto 5 short races in the day .

The min it would take me is 4 months as the parts are a 12week order so 6 months isnt that bad, its easy for time scales to slip unless parts are in stock and not many companies would keep that kind of special parts in stock.

the engine is on its mounts blacky im sure it must be higher in the car than a normal engine cos the floor is other wise the drive shafts would be at a horrible angle

so its sort of like the cars shell has been lowered on its frame

hands up if you have honestly ever been stood next to a division 1 rallycross car ???

if you have and its done some races properly you won't be standing next to it thinking its pretty, maybe pretty awfull.

i have looked at 260 grands worth of second hand focus wrc and seen its fuckin shabby and welded up with grinding marks and sandpaper marks in the paint and wonky panels, rallycross destroys cars worse and as chip says motorsport stuff doesn't get loads of paint.

Option 1: sitting on the third step of the podium with a shiney engine

Option 2: standing on the top step, spraying champagne with an engine that doesn't look shiney.

Ask how many proper racing drivers how much of a FUCK they could give about how shiney their engine is.

You lot are looking at this from too much of a car owners perspective, not a race winners perspective.

I'm looking fwd to seeing this in action and will prob head up for the time attack day. What date is it is please someone (knockhill round)?

Cheers and best of luck Andy G

Round 1 - April 25th - Oulton Park

After our first outing to Oulton in 2008 we just had to return to the super technical circuit, this time with the Modified Live shown team.

Round 2 - May 17th - Knockhill

And again, 4 ears running now, Knockhill thrills and spills just keep getting better, join us north of the border.

Round 3 - May 31st - Silverstone

Big Power time, Silverstone chews them up and spits them out, see the drivers going bigger this bigger that in an attempt to be the quickest.

Round 4 - June 28th - Brands Hatch

Nippy little movers, back in town for more tarmac terror as the lap times just keep on falling!

Round 5 - October 11th - Snetterton

Modified Live, now in its second year is going to be the big show finale of 2009!

So many new attractions you wont believe what you see
