Default ST220 engine info

Hi just bought a nice 5spd st220 (pick it up thursday) with 44k on the clock. Lovely car with all the toys but not quite as quick as I expected. I was wondering if they suffer with the same sencondry throttle issues that the earlier st24/200's had?? or any other probs coked up etc...???

Dont get me wrong it felt quick but not much more so than my 2.0l Ghia mondeo, and only on a par with two earlier st24's I've had.

Are they worth tuning at all??

Cheers.

Should feel much quicker than the 2.0 and the ST24's, especially above 4k rpm - did you hammer it on the test drive? No secondaries on the 3.0 V6.

Wow, doesn't sound right if it doesn't feel any more special than just a standard 2.0 zetec. I'd say RR it and get it checked over. Maybe you were expecting too much but seriously I cannot see how it doesn't feel a lot quicker than a 2.0 zetec or even an ST24.

didnt give it death, just expected more low down I think. I'd have to hammer the 2.0l to feel the same but just didnt feel as effortless as I was expecting. Only done 20 miles in it though so I'll see what I think when I get it.

IMO they are not all that quick off the line, they are big and heavy, and you dont really feel the speed in them.

You should notice it being quite a bit faster 60-100mph!

I have an ST24 and a ST220 and the 220 feels much quicker especially from 50+.
Once the 220 gets going its really quite quick.
Nothing special 0-60 but definately not slow either.

Ha ha, wasnt giving it enough on the test drive! They are quick once wound up arent they! Would like more low down but very nice past 4k 60mph. I'd imagine it'd top out easy enough the way it was goin.

Edit: oops, sorry, didn't read your last post!

The ST200 and 220 both deliver their goods higher up the rev range. For a decent capacity V6 they're a bit disappointing low down. If it feels no faster than your ST24 though, something's up!

My father has the 6 speed one and once u get them singing up the rev range they are great cars, just a shame the brakes are wank. Otherwise top notch motor.

agree with that, the brakes are shonky for the power and weight of the car, overall very pleased though. Handles better than I expected.

I'm used to cars that are fast to a ton not fast after!

Interesting re: fast to a 100mph. I tend to be used to cars that are fast after that. My current E46 M3 drops quite quickly from 100 to 140 and then round to 168 speedo. Its not that fast to 100 as it is quite heavy and not overly powerful. I haven't had a high grip "point n squirt" car ever.

Cheers

Shocking really! The more I drive it the more I like it, gonna cost double to run than the ghia though! Can see me investing in some bigger stoppers and some induction would sound nice.

Missus will use it daily so just got to blag her to let me take it round Donno now!!.
