I said aMal so perverts need read no further ![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Anyhoo I cant find my manuals disk so I thought Id ask on here, my Sapph stopped boosting as much as normal the other day and I have just had a quick check of it. The Amal is activating with the ignition on but then once running it does not. No clicking if I unplug and plug back in, I checked with the power probe and it has no earth while the engine is running, as soon as I earth it with the probe it clicks back to life again. Is the Amal earthed straight to the body or does it run with something else? I was planning to just run an earth to it myself is it safe enough without bollocksing something else up?
Cheers in advance chaps and chapasses

The AMAL valve is a negative trigger mate so it will be a case of tracing the wiring back to the ECU and trying to find a break/damaged section. If you just earth it, it won't pulse, it'll just hold open.

Perfect continuity between pin 16 on the ECU plug and the AMAL itself. Seems to be a problem within the ECU maybe? Will? Stu? Anyone??

I was always of the understanding it should click when you plug it back in while car is running? Sure others of mine have done it in the past?
How do I check it properly then? Maybe that would help

If you do find you have continuity, switch your meter across to VDC and check to see if it is indeed positive voltage.
If that is the case, then Pin 16 isn't the AMAL valve negative trigger

yeah ISCV and Amal share the same live (fuel pump live) you will only see 12v at both during pump prime and when engine is running.
p16 is amal, p34 is ISCV, both switched earths.

Something I have just remembered is coming back from Scotch Corner last week the car started "idling" at 4500rpm so I unplugged the valve presuming it was sticking open or fucked, it was still boosting fine while revving high when you gave it some foot. Drove with it unplugged and never really used the boost till later on and noticed it was low. Sounds like theres a connection between the two problems then.

Just put it away for the night, plugged the idle (4000rpm) valve in again and nipped it round the block. Still low boost. Quickly checked the plugs on the idle valve and amal. Both have 13.4v and 0.5v when engine running. Thats all Im doing for today.
