Default HR people??? Been asked to write my job description....

Why would your employer ask people to do that after you'd worked somewhere for almost 2 years???? Seems extremely strange to me, they gave me one when i started, now they're asking me to write one.
I don't agree with it, but that's neither here, nor there.
Anyway, is this normal or not?

Thanks for the input Jim, I'm pretty suspicious of the whole motivation behind it if I'm totally honest.

Nobody knows better than you what you do.
HR's are generally useless and therefore much better for you to do it. If you are in any position of technical competence they wouldn't have a clue.

If you still have a copy of the original job description, i would use that as your basis, but slightly elaborate on your role.Nicole is a goodun on HR questions!

I wouldn't worry about it.
I've had to write my job description for an appraisal and the sales department asked to me to edit my CV with some interesting facts and achievements.
It would seem that it isn't enough to say that you have 18 years experience in an industry now. You have to explain that you have been involved in some ground breaking industry firsts???
