well, from what i can see recently, they are falling in numbers rapidly, too many people breaking them and scrapping the shells, just searched ebay for them and there were 10 cars for sale, 3 doors and saffs

at this rate there aint going to be any left

but people breaking them is helping to keep other cossies on the road, as there is deffenatelly a demand for the parts, hence why people break them

it makes me sad when i see one breaking also, slowly they are losing enthusiasm by there owners and they are bailing and chucking the towel in and stripping them, personnely when i saff is standardish they are not worth that much in parts, id much rather see them be returned to standardish and then sold, imo that is a better way

twellsie, true that yes, the ones being striippped are only because they big spec, which i do understand as people want to re coop some money

I was just having this conversation last night with a couple of mates, I had a look on autotrader/here/pistonheads etc... for a saph as I know someone who is lookign for one justnow, it's been ages since i last looked at cossies for sale but I was pretty shocked to see how little there was available. Thats life i guess, not everyone that owns one will pay thousands to fix rust and rebuild the engines, atleast they are being reclyed to keep some more on the road.

Look at it another way tho , the more get broke the demand for parts also dwindles as there are less car that require parts

The demand for spares is dropping very very quickly , i should know hence why i am either moving my business back home and will downsize a lot or may even give up all together

I was going to just give up breaking all together and just buy and sell cossies / RS cars , but that is also a no go as the demand for RS cars is also dropping fast as people can now buy 03 / 04 evo"s etc for the same money that people expect to get for an ols saff ,

I have said it before that cossie owners need to get a grip on prices , you see the same cars listed on ebay and on websites like here for months and they just dont sell , people blame the current climate its bollocks its because people are asking the same money for a 4x4 saff as people are asking for 02 plate M3"s etc , i know where my money would be spent

Paul look on brightside

Supply and Demand

As more get stripped and numbers get less and less there will be less 2nd hand parts, Demand for parts will increase, you could be raking even more in, i reckon you should start major stock piling parts.

Yet people pay massive amounts for mk1/mk2 escorts..... Its not like they are 'better' than an evo or m3 is it?

Its all about how much people are prepared to pay and if they want to pay lots for a Sapphire Cosworth, then thats their decision.

I couldnt agree more

People are paying loads for mk1 and 2 escorts , but even they have dropped in value and they demand good money because they are 30 years old so finding them is hard

My point is that people are asking big money for cossies that arnt Big condition , 120,000 milers etc for 7k that sre more or less stage 3 and thats it

I know people make there own choice and im all for that , but people are making there own choice and it isnt in favour of the cossie hence why these cars on PH etc arnt selling

2/3 years ago i was dealing mainly in ford rs cars.
always had cossies,rs turbo's,mk 2 rs2000's in stock.

now i cant remember the last cossie i have had in for sale?
all imprezas, evo's,bmw's and small engined cars now.

just so hard to find nice rs cars worth buying to sell on and make it worthwhile now.

My sentiments exactly. Like I've said before, one in bits is no good to someone who wants to drive one home for the first time. Dragging one behind a Transit just isn't the same.

the problem is that the sapphire cossie is seen as the crap cossie out of the 3 door and escos, the sapp cossie is used all year round in most cases, the most abused and unlooked after out of all the cossies(how many really poor examples of 3 doors/escos do you see compared to sapp's)I am sorry to say the sapp cossie will all but disappear in the future and it will be the 3 doors/escos that will live on and hold gain there value!

Like said above how hard is it to find a nice spec good condition 2wd sapp now!

Plus when you are chatting to people etc and you get on to cars and you say you have got a cosworth, they ask you which one?I always say only a sapphire one i always feel kind of embarrassed lol!as these are classed as the lesser cosworth!

When i was a lowly saff owner i used the "no just a sapphire" line many times

The truth is everyone wants a real man's 3door cossie as they are the original cosworth

you should of been into rs's in the late 80's and all through the 90's before the internet ruined things, i used to get up early doors for the automart(now autotrader) and the motoring news (now motorsport news) and buy the cheep Rs's and parts. i could find anything for a old escort rs2000 or a 3dr or sapphire in the back of the motoring news, there used to be couple of pages of cars for sale and maybe 5 pages of breakers and salvage all to do with rallying old fords and the latest cosworth stuff.

nobody complained then about nice mk1's and mk2's getting split up,it happened and look at them today. same thing will happen again with cosworths i tell yer

Mines completely original apart from the stainless exhaust.

J' 1991 Moonstone Blue, Leather, Fsh with only 40,901 miles on the clock and I would only expect mine to sell for (or what I should say is, put it up for) around the Ł7500 with realistically taking Ł7000

Not that I am selling up, just my opinion.

a great fun car. the escos and 3drs just look a bit wilder.

and all this talk of evos, m3,s ect. being better cars is bollox. its what the driver prefers, my friend is looking to straight swap his evo 5 for a saff cossie because he,s bored to tears!

Totally agrree mate...I have recently bought my 2nd clean 2wd saff because I prefer them out of all of them, I could of afforded a nice 3 dr but I guess its just a personal opinion and preference. I know what everyone means about the saff cossy...but hey look at it this way....if you have a clean one and hold on to it when they do eventually fase out (which I dont think will be that far away) the premium will go up for a good one under 100,000 miles IMO

I always wanted a 3 door, then I wanted a Sapphire, then I wanted a 4x4, the Escos never really floated my boat because I'm a Sierra person really.

Then I wanted a 2wd Sapphire, couldn't decide. So I compromised. I didn't trust a 3 door round my way, and I'd commit suicide if I broke it. I'd still commit suicide if I broke my Sapphire cos it means the world to me.

The day I saw mine for the first time, I didn't want anything else. Although I do fancy a 4x4 for rainy days.

Drove an escort after a bought my saph, the guy i got my car off had the escort aswell up for 17k, i loved the look of it but it was outwith my budget. When i got to drive the escort i was really disappointed how it felt, and i was, and am still glad i could only afford the saph. Never saying i woulnd't buy an escort, but apart from the cosmetics i don't think it warrants the ridiculous premium over a similar spec saph, if i coul get a good one for 11k i'd think about it, but that will never happen.
