Default Mini Cooper works 2008 - power curve Help?

Hi Lads,

I am sure there are a few Mini Cooper drivers/owners on here so have a quick question.

A mate at work has a 2008 08 Mini cooper works, this is the 1.6 turbo version with 208bhp.

He says it feels like it has a noticeable power drop off after 5000rpm and I am just looking for views as to why that is. The power graph for the car (std car) shows peak power at 7000rpm (however tech specs say 6000 rpm?) and peak torque at 4000rpm with quite a big drop off as of 5000rpm.

He runs this on regular unleaded and I was wondering if people know if the ECU in the works responds to the fuel type? I am sure it will retard if it senses det, however I was interested to know if it was originally mapped to take into account the benefits of 97/98 and therefore he will see a proper change to the power and power curve if he tried V-power.

Anyone got any experience with these cars?

Cheers

RW

So this should be clear in the power graph? Someone must have run one of these up!

Crap fuel won't help...

The ECU retards the timing if there is knock - that hits your power.

Gareth: Thanks - I will pass on that link, however it still shows power climbing to 6000rpm. Bit of an embarrasing graph to put on a big co. website (undefined) everywhere?!

Alex: As long as the car has a base map that wants more than 95 fuel then it would make a difference. I was wanting to check if the cooper s works was the same say as my m3 which is uber sensititive to fuel types, even down to the varying types of super or even whether it is a fresh tank of v-power or from a fuel station that has old v-power. The m3 would be slow as death on 95. Hoping he sees the same benefit in the cooper works s, and that the ecu has a base map that takes advantage of more than 95!

Cheers chaps

it depends on what your looking for in a car, if you want a car for a great powerful topend, then generally you will loose torque in the lower range! if you want a car thats easy to drive, great punch from the lower in the rev range, then generally you need to sacrifice the top end!
