The price of these cars can only go up over time. if you get a minter just keep it
they are starting to get rare, there are more 3 door cossies at the moment than xr4i's

look matey the value of a old xr4i dependson a load of things
owners
paint/panels
welding
history
miles
condition
if its a show car ravin minter with full history and no welding or panels and mint trim and low miles its a 6 grand car.
if its done more miles than captain kirk and is a winter away from scrapping and generally looks shabby its 350 quid or less.
if the seller wants more and you don't have it and it really is a nice car let someone off here have it like me and i'll look after it for you as i like my old xr4i's.

Be aware that a 4i has a fair bit of bodykit covering most of the places up that rot! I bought one that did look in very good nick but when the kit comes off its a different story......Have another look at it but take a screwdriver and have a look at the inner cills under the carpet also inner arches front and rear, boot floor where the rear 1/4s meet. and the chassis rails where the rear springs sit also disapear, The front seat mounts rot too often from the inside out. I paid a reasonable price for mine for a resto job.
Good luck!

They are rot boxes, had one myself a black one A 436 OVF, my dad has one too(4L V8), also in black FOG 922 V.
I would not pay anything like £1200, but depends how much you want it, best of luck anyway.

LoL The screw driver was for unscrewing the interior plastic cill cover not poking at stuff...If someone came to view one o my cars armed with a screwdriver for poking at stuff i'd tell em to ferk off too.

Both of ours rotted, inner/outer sills, rear panel, front floor sections, section around the bottom rear of the front wings in particular, plus rear arches, doors, even the upright bit going between roof and top of bonnet area, had to cut out and weld in new here as well, plus boot floors(spare wheel well).
Lovely looking cars, nice to drive, a bit different, I prefer them to the 3 door cossie look.

my white one was the worst and that had new sills, new arches, new plates where spring sits and loads of electrical myther,my silver one was the best, solid everywhere except a patch on inner wing and plate on where the spring sits, miss the silver one, asked around all the popular sites to get it back but cant find it and the reg comes up not recognised on d.v.l.a website, last of the line b plate with electric everything and power steering, reg was b339rea.

I converted my last 4i to twin turbo, as it looked like a good car. It's the one that has been converted to thunder saloon by taps on the ford sierra club. If you look at the pics of it, they are quite good at hiding the rot! The one before that looked good aswell, until i took the kit off!

wouldnt mind a 24v 4i myself actually.
would need cossie suspension/brakes/beam/interior etc. tho
and a full restoration as it'd probably be a shed when i bought it

But a lot of filler and loads of rust once I fully stripped it but it lives again

Only if you type the reg in in lower case though, wierdly. Vin numbers a funny one on that too. Chassis number says built Dec 81 and the engine code says Nov 84!!
