not entriely sure. cant find the site i used the other day... but it explained that all DOT 5 fluid is silicone baised, and gave the boiling figures as higher than DOT 5.1 but it eats seals. hence DOT 5.1 (Glycol Based) is used as it has a longer brake life and doesnt eat selas...

Silicone fluid is compressible compared to normal fluid and also as it is non-hygroscopic it means water will collect in pockets in your fluid rather than just being 'held' within it.
This can lead to problems in very heavy braking and with brake pipe corrosion
