how do i get my locking wheel nuts off?
right got a slow puncture and tried changing the tyre, but i can't cos the car hasn't got a locking wheel nut for the wheels.
How an earth am i gonna get these off?
there round design ones so even a socket over the top would just spin around. They have 3 dots across the top at 10'oclock mark 12'oclock mark and 2'oclock mark. The last little dot is at 6'oclock.
So they have 4 holes and the hole locking nut is just round no ridges around it or anything like that.
how am i gonna get all 4 off? Fricken hate these bloody things, would rather just have normal nuts on, its hardly likely someone is gonna jeck your car up often and nick your wheels anyway, more likely to loose the bloost little locking wheel nut.
cheers in advance guys

whats a multisided socket, the one that has loads of groves around it rather than just like a 50p coin design?
thing is this locking nut set is a perfect round circle, would this give it grip and hold it to bring em off?
cheers

for the hedache and time i'm going to have to indulge myself, i would much rather just have normal nuts on and run the risk. Its not something that happens everyday, and i never leave the car far anyway, and its known locally, so no one would bother even thinking it, let alone trying it

Yes m8 any type of socket tbh if you dont mind f*%king one use a normal muti sided on
Yoa may need to go 1 size down from whot fits the locker
Or if you gor a wheel brace the + type one they nomaly work well to

i had similar ones on the my car with no key when i bought it.
i used a 3/4" drive extention bar, TWATTED the ratchet end over the locker and then used a socket on the other end with a massive allen key....sorted! another idea to try if the others dont work!!
PS, dont bother trying to drill them out

i know the ones he's on about, i've got them on my motor too
right bastids to get off if you lose the key because they have nowhere to grip to other than a bit poking out the top
if they are recesed into the wheel (the bolt holes that is) then you will be there forever
been there, done that
if you really want to get them off what you need to do is make sure you have a BIG drill bit (13mm minimum)
start off by drilling a 6mm hole in a bit of metal so you can centre the hole in the stud
then put the metal bit over the wheel and drill as deep into the stud as possible
you then get your big 13mm or whatever drill bit and just drill out the stud
ok, so it takes a bit of practice but 30 minutes of effort will get it off
once you have drilled deep enoug you can then twat it with a slim chisel to crack the nut and then just tap it round
of the other way to do it is to buy another set of those locking wheelnuts and then drill out the holes slightly so that the new key will lock into place over the holes, makes the nut useless again but hey, you're not really going to be worried are oyu

go to a automotive specialist tool shop and buy a locking wheel nut removin tool impact socket with a left hand thread that screws on to the nut and gets them of in about 2 mins flat at around Ł30 its cheaper than a set of new wheels, im in the trade and it has saved me hours of messing about but check the size before you buy as some nuts are bigger than others

only took me 30 minutes to go through the stud enough to get the nut off
but you are using one of them proper electric drills rather than one of them 12V jobbies right?

You dont need to have any thing for the shocket to grip hold of as if the shocket is slightly smaller it will mold it self to the locker when you hit it onto it
I done this with a set of tri locking nuts (there round with the 3 holes in the middle type thing )
18mm is nomaly the one

for all the people who are saying "put a smaller socket on it" can someone put up a picture of the locking wheel nut in question?
that way you will see that there is nothing for the socket to go onto!!!! it's a flat topped nut with a few holes in it and a spindle to locet the key onto
but yes, get the drill bit sharpened and it'll go through like it was butter
