Default Surge Tank.

I am thinking of custom making a surge tank to fit in the spare wheel well. The cradle under a three door fits a fuel injection pressure pump and filter. Can I use a 044 pump as a "lift" pump to fill the surge tank (044 pumps are cheap here and I know it will flow enough). It is hard to find free flow information of fuel injection pumps. Or does anyone know of a more suitable pump with same dimensions to fit into the cradle (500hp). The standard fuel return to the tank looks smaller than 8mm while the feed to the pumps is well over 12mm. What I am proposing is fittings to fill and return at the top of the surge tank - then a fitting above these two as a return from fuel rail. Is there a problem with overfilling a surge tank so that the smaller return to tank line cannot return quickly enough (fuel to the tank) so that the return from the fuel rail is pressurised? Can you aerate the fuel by pumping too hard? I do not want to weld new fittings in tank

Or am I just full of it?
