Default 1.6 cvh engines

Any gurus on here?

The standard 1.6 fitted to the mk2 fiesta xr2, was this the same as(identical to) the engine in the xr3 escort? And non xr 1.6 models? Also, are any bits common accross different capacities?

Cheers

Essentially yes, block is the same, as is the sump. Oil pumps will be slightly different post 1986, as will water pumps.

The heads on later ones were lean burn (diff shaped combustion chambers in the head) - i think.

Inlet manifolds were specific to the early or later carb types i think as well.

So if a set of race regs specified part numbers for the manifolds and head and stuff then it would have to come from the correct car?

Its for the knockhill XR2 racing and I wondered about low mileage unragged engines from other cars as a base point.

I reckon so yes, cos scrutineers would love to spot "incorrect" parts.

I reckon the twin choke 90bhp mk4 cvh carb engine (fitted to the later 1.6 L/GL/Ghia) would be identical to the Mk2 XR2 engine, as in block n head, just swap the inlet/exhaust manifolds over and your done.

Id be rebuilding anyway, but it would be nice to find a set of rods and a crank that havent been on the limiter their entire lives!
